Job summary

Brown University is seeking an Intellectual Property Technology Specialist to guide the university’s patent portfolio and collaborate with Business Development Directors, faculty inventors, and outside counsel to optimize filing, prosecution, and licensing strategies.

The role emphasizes advanced IP analysis, cross‑functional communication, and strategic oversight across 500+ active patent families in a hybrid work environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree is required; an advanced degree is preferred.
• 3–5 years of experience supporting an IP portfolio in academia, tech transfer, or related environments.
• Experience in a technology licensing office at a major university is a plus; Patent Agent status is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Oversee filing, prosecution, maintenance, and defense strategies for the patent portfolio.
• Provide IP analysis and quality oversight to align with commercialization goals.
• Bridge between faculty inventors and outside counsel to optimize license opportunities.
