Job summary

Ocean Tomo, a part of J.S. Held, invites interns to join a hybrid Summer 2027 program in Chicago. You will build financial models, conduct tech and market research, and contribute to IP landscape analyses and client deliverables.

The role emphasizes rigorous analysis, professional communication, and hands-on experience with strategic advisory in IP consulting. Office presence 2–3 days weekly is expected.

Qualifications

• Pursuing undergraduate degree in finance, accounting or economics, engineering, or hard or computer science.
• Relevant work experience in investment banking, private equity, M&A, corporate finance, and/or intellectual property preferred.
• Excellent organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail and strong Excel/Office proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Construct financial analyses, including building complex models.
• Perform technology, industry, and company-specific research.
• Draft client presentations, pitch books, reports, letters, or memoranda.
• Assist with intellectual property landscape analysis and evaluation of patents/patent portfolios for salability.
• Identify and engage contacts at target companies.

Job Responsibilities:

• Construct financial analyses, including building complex models

Required Qualifications:

• Pursuing undergraduate business degree in finance, accounting or bachelor’s degree in economics, engineering, or hard or computer science with applicable work experience
• Relevant work experience in investment banking, private equity, M&A, corporate finance, and/or intellectual property preferred
• Excellent organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail
• Advanced user of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
• Strong financial modeling skills, including advanced understanding of financial statements and valuation methodologies
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• High degree of professionalism, integrity, and flexibility
• Selfstarter with strong sense of ownership and urgency
• Great attitude and client presence
• Ability to go to the office 2-3 a week
• Applicants for employment in the U.S. must possess work authorization which does not require sponsorship by the employer for a visa.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Relevant work experience in investment banking, private equity, M&A, corporate finance, and/or intellectual property preferred

A reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role is $30-$34 per hour.Any offered salary range is based on a wide array of factors including but not limitedto skillset,experience, training, location, scope of role, management responsibility, etc.
