Job summary

State of Indiana – Department of Labor is hiring inspectors to conduct IOSHA inspections across Indiana. You will assess safety conditions, gather data, and document findings to support regulatory action. Travel to client sites is frequent, with conferences and testimonies as part of the role.

The position emphasizes safety expertise, ability to work in hazardous environments, and strong reporting skills. A degree is not required, but extensive experience in construction or industrial settings

Qualifications

• Annual physical/medical evaluation to ensure capability for essential functions.
• Willingness to travel with reasonable accommodation.
• Ability to carry heavy equipment and wear protective gear including respirators.
• Ability to interpret IOSHA regulations and apply standards.
• Ability to conduct inspections and prepare administrative reports.

Responsibilities

• Conduct assigned inspections, including formal/non-formal complaints and referrals.
• Inspect sites to evaluate safety/health conditions per IOSHA rules.
• Hold opening conferences with owners/management to explain inspection process.
• Collect and analyze data; document findings with notes, photos, etc.
• Create and document technical reports for regulatory action.
• Interview employees to gather information and caution on hazards.
• Conduct closing conferences to summarize findings and discuss abatement.
• Testify at hearings and Board of Safety Review.
• Travel to client sites most workdays to inspect and write reports.
