Job description

iOS/tvOS Software Engineer, Prime Video Linear

Job ID: 2961597 | Amazon.com Services LLC

Prime Video is disrupting traditional media with an ever-increasing selection of movies, TV shows, Emmy Award winning original content, add-on subscriptions including HBO and Showtime, and live events like Thursday Night Football. Within this expanding ecosystem, Linear TV (24/7 Television or broadcast programming) has emerged as one of our fastest-growing segments, with viewership hours increasing significantly year over year. This growth demonstrates that even in the streaming era, customers deeply value the lean-back, curated experience that Linear TV provides.

Our data shows that Linear TV viewers develop strong habitual viewing patterns, spending more time on the platform and engaging more consistently than traditional VOD-only users. The Linear Mobile Experience (LMOE) team is responsible for bringing this compelling Live TV experience to life across iOS, tvOS and Android client platforms. We craft intuitive, performant, and engaging user interfaces that make it easy for customers to discover and enjoy their favorite live content. We collaborate with multiple engineering teams within Prime Video to build worry-free and best-in-class CX in service of our vision to be the world’s most-loved linear streaming platform.

We're seeking talented Mobile Software Development Engineers to join LMOE, building native experiences for iOS and Android that allow customers to watch Live TV anywhere. Our mobile apps need to handle complex scenarios like live playback on the landing page, auto play in carousels and seamless transitions between content exploration and playback. As part of LMOE, you will be delivering Linear specific features through integration with platform-specific features while maintaining high performance and reliability.

Key job responsibilities
  1. Design and implement native Linear TV experiences for iOS/Android platforms
  2. Build sophisticated UI components for program guides, channel browsing, and live playback
  3. Integrate with platform-specific features (notifications, widgets, picture-in-picture)
  4. Optimize app performance and memory usage for smooth Live TV playback
  5. Work with partner teams to integrate with backend services and APIs to enable personalized content recommendations
  6. Ensure consistent behavior across different devices and OS versions
  7. Collaborate with UX designers to implement pixel-perfect designs
  8. Drive improvements in app stability and performance metrics

A day in the life
You'll work on features that directly impact how millions of customers experience Live TV. Your day might involve optimizing a new UI component's performance, implementing a new feature from the Linear Discovery Service, collaborating with UX designers on a new viewing experience, or solving platform-specific challenges. You'll balance customer experience, performance, and maintainability while ensuring our apps meet the high standards our customers expect.
