Job summary

Phoenix Children's in Phoenix, AZ is seeking an IONM Specialist I to perform intraoperative neuromonitoring procedures, setup, electrode application, and maintain patient safety under supervision until competencies are achieved.

The role supports Neurodiagnostic services, trains staff and students, and participates in continuing education; requires ABRET-END or equivalent degree, CNIM eligibility, pediatric experience, and BLS within 30 days.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an ABRET Neurodiagnostic Credentialing and Accreditation (ABRET) END program, or a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • CNIM board eligible and/or CNIM certification.
  • Pediatric experience preferred; required as noted in the posting.
  • BLS within 30 days of hire.
  • Two (2) or more years in neurodiagnostic field including 1 year in IONM.

Responsibilities

  • Performs intraoperative neuromonitoring procedures including SSEP, BAEP, EMG, TcMEP, ECOG and EEG.
  • Performs Neurodiagnostic procedures such as EEG, evoked potentials, and long-term video EEG.
  • Maintains ongoing education and competencies.
  • Mentors Neurodiagnostic staff and students.
  • Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Position Summary

The Intraoperative Neuromonitoring (IONM) Specialist I is a mid-level position for intraoperative neuromonitoring (IONM). The IONM Specialist I performs IONM procedures appropriate to their competence, including test setup, electrode application, maintaining patient safety, and other related duties. Strong, well-developed communication skills, and teamwork are essential for this position. During IONM procedures for which competence has not been achieved, the IONM Specialist I trains under direct technical supervision. Once training is completed and all required institution competencies have been achieved, the IONM Specialist I works under indirect technical supervision.

Position Duties
  • Performs intraoperative procedures including, but not limited to, somatosensory evoked potentials (SSEP), brainstem auditory evoked potentials (BAEP), Triggered and free run electromyography and cranial nerve monitoring, trans-cranial motor evoked potentials (TcMEP), electrocorticography and electroencephalography.
  • Performs Neurodiagnostic procedures including, but not limited to, electroencephalography, evoked potentials, and long‑term video EEG.
  • Maintains continuing education and competencies.
  • Participates in tutoring, demonstrating, and mentoring other Neurodiagnostic staff members and Neurodiagnostic students.
  • Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.

Position Qualifications
Education
  • A credential in electroencephalography (R. EEG T.) from ABRET Neurodiagnostic Credentialing and Accreditation (ABRET) and/or a credential in Evoked Potentials (R. EP T.) from ABRET Neurodiagnostic Credentialing and Accreditation (ABRET) or a Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university. (Credentials in neurodiagnostics from other nations may also be considered as fulfillment of the registry requirements)
Required
  • Graduation from an ABRET Neurodiagnostic Credentialing and Accreditation (ABRET) accredited Neurodiagnostic (END) Program, or a Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university.
Preferred
  • Graduation from an ABRET Neurodiagnostic Credentialing and Accreditation (ABRET) accredited Neurodiagnostic (END) Program, or a Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience
  • Two (2) or more years of experience in the neurodiagnostic field which includes 1 year experience in IONM.
