Job summary

IonQ in Boulder, CO is seeking a simulation physicist to study ion transport physics and validate results with experimental teams. You will design transport waveforms for our quantum computers and collaborate with scientists and engineers to integrate ion transport into products.

You should have a PhD in a related field, strong programming skills (Rust, C, C++), and experience with numerical simulations. Onsite work in Boulder offers competitive compensation and equity opportunities.

Qualifications

• PhD in atomic physics, quantum information, or a related field with experimental hardware experience.
• Experience operating or supporting experimental hardware and/or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Develop novel control schemes for fast, robust ion transport.
• Design and optimize control waveforms for loading, transport, routing and gates.
• Simulate ion chains in RF Paul traps and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Communicate technical concepts and results to stakeholders through reports and presentations.
• Collaborate with quantum architects to co-design transport operations and QEC primitives.
