Cardinal Health is seeking a Pharmacy Technician for In Office Dispensing (IOD) at the cCARE Cancer Center in La Jolla, CA. You will manage prescription tracking, engage with patients at the IOD window, and ensure Medicare-compliant dispensing within a clinical setting.

Responsibilities

• Accurately tracks all prescriptions that are written by physicians.
• Keeps an accurate daily log of all prescriptions dispensed in the CCA IOD and those electronically prescribed.
• Effectively supervises and monitors all prescriptions written in the facility, ensuring a qualified E-prescribing system has been adopted and every prescription is written in compliance with Medicare guidelines.
• Greet patients at the IOD window and explain the CCA prescription system and confirm patient information on file.
• Provide patients with a choice of physician dispensing, when possible, or e-prescription to a pharmacy of their choice.
• Verify patient prescription coverage insurance to accurately bill according to coverage plan using Centricity and Pioneer.
• Input prescriptions for physician dispensing using Pioneer software.
• Ensure accurate patient information is submitted for claim and confirm proper claim has been captured.
• Work with insurance companies, obtaining prior authorization for physician dispensing medication claims that are rejected.
• Follow up on submitted authorization requests as needed.
• Complete other assignments as assigned by management.

Job description

What IOD (In Office Dispensing) contributes to Cardinal Health Pharmacy Operations is responsible for the safe, efficient and effective coordination of Cardinal Health's pharmacy operations that service acute care hospitals, hospital retail customers, ambulatory care and alternate site facilities, oncology and cardiology practices as well as retail customers. IOD (In Office Dispensing) is responsible for preparing, packaging, and dispensing medications directly to patients within a clinical or office setting.

Location: cCARE Cancer Center: La Jolla 9850 Genesee Avenue Suite 560 La Jolla, CA 92037 Schedule: 8-hour shift, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 7:30am - 5:00pm

Responsibilities

• Effectively works with insurance companies, obtaining prior authorization for physician dispensing medication claims that are rejected.
• Follows up on submitted authorization requests as needed.
• Effectively completes other assignments as assigned by management.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required; two-year degree preferred
• Pharmacy Technician Certification required.
• 0 - 2 years related work experience or training preferred.
• Knowledge of computer/telephony support, preferably in a health care environment, preferred
• Strong customer service background, preferably in health care environment, preferred
• Excellent verbal communication skills, preferred
• Competence with computer processing functions and other standard office equipment, preferred
• Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks, preferred
