MCJ, an early-stage venture capital firm backing startups in energy, infrastructure, and industrials, is hiring an Associate for its investment team (remote, with hubs in San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, Boston, and Austin). The role is split across three areas: sourcing and pipeline (50%) -- owning MCJ's proactive sourcing motion across its energy/infrastructure/industrial mandates, monitoring research labs, DOE/ARPA-E grants, patent filings, and university spinouts for pre-company signals, building thematic pipeline maps, and running first conversations with founders; tooling and systems (25%) -- designing AI-enabled workflows that power sourcing and diligence for the investment team; and diligence support (25%) -- partnering with General Partners on diligence for companies that clear the top of the funnel, including market sizing, competitive landscape analysis, reference calls, and founder background checks, plus writing internal memos on deal opportunities and preparing materials for investment decision discussions.
