Job summary

Thrivent is seeking an Application Engineer, Asset Management to design, build, and maintain software and data solutions for the Investments organization. You will collaborate across teams to deliver reliable, scalable technology that supports portfolio managers, analysts, and operations.

The role covers development, testing, deployment, and ongoing production support; you will mentor peers and help automate data processing and reporting workflows.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, MIS, business, mathematics, or related field.
• 3+ years' technical experience in application engineering, data engineering, or production support.
• Experience with development languages, tools, and structures (e.g., Java, OpenShift, SQL, Snowflake, dbt, GitHub, PowerBI or similar technologies).
• Experience with vendor package implementation and system integration.
• Business knowledge for the area of support.
• Experience working with data pipelines, APIs, or system integrations.
• Experience troubleshooting issues across applications, data, and infrastructure layers.

Responsibilities

• Provide support for business applications including enhancement and/new development on projects.
• Upgrades to existing systems and platforms; routine maintenance and on-call rotation for 24x7 production support.
• Collaborate with business partners, analysts, and other engineers using agile methodologies to document technical features.
• Develop, integrate, test, debug, and document application components using various technologies.
• Install and deploy components following procedures to ensure production success.
• Mentor other Application Engineers to develop skills and knowledge.
• Automate data ingestion, transformation, validation, and reporting for efficiency and reliability.
• Support analytics platforms and environments used by data analysts; manage dependencies and reproducibility.
• Maintain documentation for applications, data flows, and operational procedures.
• Design, develop, enhance, and maintain components and data pipelines supporting investment systems and analytics workflows.
• Develop APIs and integrations across internal and external platforms.
• Diagnose and resolve moderately complex issues across code, data pipelines, APIs, databases, and infrastructure.
