Job summary

Freestone Capital Management in San Francisco, CA, seeks a Summer Investment Strategy Intern to work with the Investment Strategy team and learn Freestone's investment platform across public equities, fixed income, and alternatives. You will help explain market developments to advisors and clients.

The internship runs through the summer with ongoing training and networking. High performing interns may stay on for an extended term, with potential full-time Analyst opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Support market and portfolio analysis by tracking markets, economic developments, portfolio positioning and performance.
• Contribute to investment communications by developing weekly and monthly market commentary and quarterly reviews.
• Research portfolio questions and synthesize findings into clear takeaways.
• Turn portfolio and market data into charts, exhibits, and concise commentary.
• Research competitive landscape and summarize implications for Freestone.
• Attend Investment Committee and strategy meetings to understand how views are formed and translated into client portfolios.

About The Role

The Investment Strategy team serves as the link between Freestone's Investment Committee and the advisors and clients we serve. We translate our investment views, portfolio positioning, and market developments into clear, timely, and actionable communication.

As a Summer Investment Strategy Intern, you will work closely with the Investment Strategy team and gain exposure to Freestone's investment platform across public equities, fixed income, and alternative investments. You'll help us understand what is happening in markets and our portfolios, and communicate why it matters to advisors and clients.

The Intern program lasts the summer, with continuous training and networking opportunities throughout. Well performing interns will assume increasing responsibilities and may be asked to stay on for an extended term. Exceptional Interns with a demonstrated interest in and aptitude for investments may be offered a full-time opportunity to stay on with Freestone long-term as an Analyst. This position is located in San Francisco, CA.

Key Responsibilities

• Support market and portfolio analysis: Track markets, economic developments, portfolio positioning, and performance, helping identify the developments most relevant to our advisors and clients.
• Contribute to investment communications: Help develop weekly and monthly market commentary, quarterly strategy and fund reviews, investment updates, and other advisor- and client-facing materials.
• Dig into portfolio questions: Research questions related to performance, positioning, investment themes, and individual strategies and synthesize the findings into clear takeaways.
• Help tell the story behind the numbers: Analyze portfolio and market data and turn it into charts, exhibits, and concise written commentary that make complex investment topics easier to understand.
• Research the competitive landscape: Evaluate investment products, strategies, and industry trends and summarize the implications for Freestone.
• Participate in the investment process: Attend Investment Committee, portfolio manager, and strategy meetings to develop an understanding of how investment views are formed and translated into client portfolios.
