Job summary

Essex Property Trust is seeking an Investment Management Analyst in Irvine to support Facilities, Construction Execution, Design, Commercial, and Ancillary Income teams. Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in data analytics, business, finance, or economics.
  • 2–4+ years of experience in data analytics, real estate, or FP&A.
  • Experience with data visualization tools, Power BI; strong data modeling, Excel (Power Query), and SQL.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain Power BI reports, dashboards, and visualizations for operational and financial insights.
  • Contribute to enhancing reporting tools and data visualization solutions.
  • Ensure reporting accuracy via data validation and QA processes.
  • Analyze business performance using KPIs and metrics; identify trends and improvement areas.
  • Perform financial analyses and forecasting to support budgeting and decision-making.
  • Collaborate with Data Platform team to define data requirements and improve data architecture.
  • Present findings to Senior Management with clear data storytelling.
  • Support monthly reporting with insights and predictive modeling.
  • Develop and maintain financial models; assist with underwriting and scenario modeling.

The Investment Management Analyst will play a critical role within Essex’s Investment Management departments, with primary support for the Facilities, Construction Execution, Design, Commercial, and Ancillary Income teams. Working closely with cross-functional teams, this individual will focus on data analysis, financial and operational insights, and process improvements, becoming a key contributor to the annual budget process. Power BI skills are essential, with an emphasis on contributing to data visualization initiatives and independently managing projects that enhance departmental efficiencies and add value across the division.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:
  • Data Visualization (Power BI) Develop and maintain reports, dashboards, and visualizations that provide operational and financial insights to business partners.
  • Assist with enhancing existing reporting tools and implementing improvements to data visualization solutions.
  • Ensure reporting accuracy through data validation and quality assurance processes.
  • Operational and Financial Data Analysis Assess business performance through KPIs and operational metrics, identifying trends and areas for improvement.
  • Conduct in-depth financial analyses, evaluating performance against budget, and contributing to forecasting with insights on opportunities and risks.
  • Cross-Functional Partnership and Influence Work collaboratively with the Data Platform team to define data requirements, recommend calculation methodologies, and contribute to data architecture improvements.
  • Serve as a partner to internal departments, fostering a collaborative approach to achieving key objectives and sharing insights across the business.
  • Storytelling and Presentation Develop and deliver impactful presentations to Senior Management, transforming complex data findings into compelling narratives that support strategic decision-making.
  • Emphasize the use of data storytelling to drive understanding, alignment, and action.
  • Budgeting and Earnings Support Provide contributions to the annual budgeting process, delivering detailed financial analysis and scenario modeling to support decision-making.
  • Support monthly reporting with data insights, performance metrics, and predictive modeling.
  • Financial Modeling and Underwriting Build and maintain financial models under the guidance of senior team members.
  • Support underwriting, investment analysis, and scenario modeling activities as needed.
  • All Other Tasks Assigned Embrace flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment, taking on additional tasks as necessary to support the team and organization.
  • AI (Artificial Intelligence) remains a focus of the organization. This position may be required to learn and support AI initiatives for the departments as needed.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
  • Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) from a four-year college or university in data analytics, business, finance, or economics.
  • 2-4+ years of experience in data analytics, real estate, or financial planning & analysis.
  • Experience and familiarity with data visualization tools, particularly Power BI; strong skills in data modeling, Excel (including Power Query), and SQL.
WHAT THE JOB REQUIRES:
  • Work is primarily conducted in an office setting. Requires sitting at a desk or workstation for extended periods.
  • Involves the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and printers.
  • Requires the ability to work Monday through Friday.
  • Entails in-person office requirements consistent with the Company’s hybrid policy, located at Essex's corporate offices in Irvine, Woodland Hills, San Mateo, and Bellevue.
  • Requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
  • Minimal physical effort in the day-to-day tasks.
  • Minimal travel may be required for occasional meetings, training, or conferences.

New hires generally start between $83,000.00 - $102,000.00 per year. The final salary offer will be determined after reviewing relevant factors, including but not limited to skill sets; relevant experience; internal equity; and other business and organizational needs.

This role is also eligible to participate in Essex’s discretionary Annual Bonus program that is commensurate with the level of the position.
