Job summary

Roblox is seeking a Safety Threat Investigator to lead high-sensitivity investigations from intake to resolution, delivering defensible, evidence-based outcomes. You will partner with Legal, Safety Intelligence, and Trust & Safety Operations to drive process improvements and playbooks.

Mentor investigators, maintain case hygiene, and contribute to safety enhancements across the platform while handling sensitive content in a compliant, responsible manner.

Qualifications

• 4+ years conducting sensitive investigations involving severe safety, abuse, fraud, security, threat, or other high-risk matters.
• Independently manage investigations end-to-end, including intake, scoping, evidence development, analysis, findings, and follow-through.
• Experience using SQL and/or Python, large datasets, and OSINT in an investigative context.
• Strong investigative judgment and the ability to distinguish facts, inferences, allegations, unknowns, assumptions, and analytical conclusions.
• Experience with attribution, account or entity linkage, network analysis, open-source intelligence, cross-platform research.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for producing clear, concise, and defensible work products for stakeholders.
• Ability to turn ambiguous questions into precise investigation plans and drive multi-week or multi-quarter initiatives with minimal oversight.
• Systems-oriented thinking and the ability to connect cases to policy, product, process, detection, legal, and user-trust considerations.
• Experience influencing partners and creating alignment in high-stakes or time-sensitive situations.
• Demonstrated mentorship or subject-matter expertise to help others grow.
• Sound judgment, discretion, curiosity, resilience, and commitment to evidence-based investigations.

Responsibilities

• Own repeatable, high-sensitivity investigations involving serious safety threats, including child exploitation, violent extremism, organized fraud, compromised accounts, and other high-risk matters.
• Apply structured investigative methods, evidence checklists, templates, and approved data pulls to produce timely and consistent case outcomes.
• Gather, preserve, analyze, and corroborate evidence while maintaining provenance, confidentiality, and auditability.
• Define investigative questions, scope, hypotheses, evidence plans, milestones, risk controls, and exit criteria for sensitive matters.
• Conduct focused account, entity, and timeline linkage; identify when deeper attribution or cross-platform investigation is needed.
• Escalate cases to Specialized Investigations for attribution complexity or broader risk.
• Prepare clear case summaries and downstream work products for partners such as Legal, Safety Intelligence, Trust & Safety Operations, Law Enforcement, or NCMEC.
• Track recurring patterns and translate findings into policy, product, and detection improvements.
• Lead improvements such as playbooks, evidence standards, intake criteria, triage processes, and quality-review mechanisms.
• Represent Safety Investigations with cross-functional stakeholders and defend investigative decisions.
• Mentor investigators and raise the team’s standards for rigor and collaboration.
• Maintain case hygiene and ensure investigations are closed with clear outcomes and follow-up actions.
• Deliver rigorous, timely, and consistent outcomes on high-sensitivity investigations.
