Job summary

City of Cincinnati's Citizen Complaint Authority is seeking an investigator to independently handle cases alleging misconduct by Cincinnati Police Department employees, coordinate with executives, board, and external agencies, and generate comprehensive reports with findings and corrective recommendations. A bachelor's in criminal justice is required; a master's is preferred.

Qualifications

• A minimum of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice or a related field is required.
• A master's degree is preferred.
• Outside professional training in conducting investigations in law enforcement, analytical report writing, and data analysis is desired.
• Prior professional investigations experience; may be a former police or law enforcement officer outside City of Cincinnati; not current Cincinnati Police Department member.

Responsibilities

• Review and investigate complaints against Cincinnati Police Department employees as provided in the collaborative agreement.
• Gather documentation and evidence; interview complainants, targets, and witnesses; cooperate with other agencies.
• Conduct legal research to determine applicable constitutional, statutory, and case law.
• Prepare analytical reports on evidence supporting or disproving allegations, based on objective criteria.
• Interact professionally with stakeholders; maintain confidentiality during investigations.
• Investigate incidents involving gunfire by Cincinnati Police Officers; on-call 24 hours as needed.
• Audit internal investigative reports and assist those contacted during duty.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
