Job summary

The County of Hawaiʻi is seeking an Investigator IV in Hilo to independently conduct complete investigations of felony and misdemeanor cases readied for prosecution under general supervision. You will gather evidence, interview witnesses, prepare reports, and assist with court presentations, including grand jury work and trials.

Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree, 21 years of age, two years of criminal investigation experience, and firearm qualification.

Qualifications

• Must have a Bachelor's degree and two years of criminal investigation experience.
• Must be at least 21 years old at filing.
• Must be qualified to carry firearms per state/federal law.

Responsibilities

• Conduct complete investigations of felony and misdemeanor cases under general supervision.
• Assist higher level investigators in major investigations.
• Interview and interrogate suspects and witnesses.
• Prepare reports with findings and recommendations.
• Present data and case materials for court presentations.
• Maintain and operate firearms and related equipment.
• Travel as needed for witness meetings.
