Why You Should Join Our Team:

Investigator I is a non-law enforcement position offering a comprehensive benefits package from day one. Employees work remotely and independently approximately 85% of the time and play a vital role in supporting the objectives of Utah's criminal justice system.


This position is primarily located in the Ogden and Farmington areas, within the Northern Utah Region of Adult Probation and Parole, which includes offices and facilities in Farmington, Ogden, Brigham City, and Logan.

Principal Functions:
  1. Conduct investigations of individuals convicted of various crimes.
  2. Prepare and review documents for accuracy and completeness.
  3. Collaborate with outside agencies, treatment facilities, offenders, and the community.
  4. Draft correspondence, reports, and other written materials.
  5. Review outgoing correspondence for procedural, factual, and grammatical accuracy to ensure policy compliance.

This is NOT a POST-certified job. It does not involve responding to threats to public safety, crime prevention, or community protection.

Preference: Candidates with the following qualifications will be prioritized:
  • Criminal justice education or experience
  • O-track knowledge
  • Judicial process or court work experience
  • Community coordination with allied agencies
  • Experience using UCJIS/BCI
  • Familiarity with PACER
  • Knowledge of Court Xchange records

Important: This position requires an 18-month probationary period.

  • Gather background information and evaluate credibility.
  • Conduct interviews in various settings to gather and clarify information.
  • Respond to questions or complaints, explain policies, and facilitate resolutions.
  • Maintain detailed investigation records and prepare reports.
  • Apply evidence-based practices through assessments.
  • Analyze data, report findings, and make recommendations.
  • Prepare concise decision documents based on facts, law, and sentencing guidelines.

  • Excellent computer skills including typing, email, Google Suite, Windows, and video conferencing.
  • Proficiency in English, including spelling, grammar, and effective writing tailored to the audience.
  • Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the criminal justice system, processes, laws, and regulations.
  • Logical reasoning and problem-solving abilities.
  • Understanding implications of new information for decision-making.
  • Ability to identify complex problems and evaluate solutions.

  • Ability to apply rules to specific problems and maintain confidentiality.
  • Professional interpersonal skills with tact and sensitivity.
  • Knowledge of probation and parole rehabilitation processes.

Physical and Other Requirements:
  • Risks typical of an office environment, including safe use of equipment and fire safety.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Physical activity such as standing, walking over rough terrain, bending, and reaching.
