Base pay range

$60,506.00/yr - $72,630.00/yr

Duties Description

The Investigator 1 will assist an Investigator 2 in all investigations matters. Duties include assigning investigations requested by Claims to appropriate vendors, processing invoices, and completing evaluations on each investigation to ensure it was conducted and invoiced consistent with NYSIF contracts.

Minimum Qualifications

For new to NYS candidates OR current NYS employees (Non-competitive appointment via NY HELPS):

  1. Four years of experience in a field investigative position conducting interviews, taking written statements and affidavits, collecting and analyzing physical and documentary evidence, and preparing detailed reports. Qualifying experience includes police detective, insurance investigator, private investigator, federal/state/municipal investigator, child protective services investigator, or military investigations. Non-qualifying experience includes routine police patrol, security guard, tax collector, legal assistant, loss prevention, parole officer, correction officer, or foster care placement.
  2. Substitutions: An associate degree in relevant fields can substitute for two years of experience; a bachelor's degree or higher can substitute for four years.

For current NYS employees (Competitive appointment):

  1. Reachable for appointment on the current Civil Service eligible list; OR
  2. One year of permanent, competitive class service as an Investigator 1; OR
  3. One year of eligible transfer under Civil Service Law, e.g., Investigative Officer 1, Underwriter Trainee, etc.

Note: The NYSIF does not sponsor employment visas. Candidates should be aware of their sponsorship status and expiration dates prior to applying.

Additional Comments

Starting salary for new State employees is the hiring rate within the range. Promotion salaries are determined by the NYS Office of the State Comptroller and union agreements.
