Job summary

Cherokee County Solicitor-General’s Office is seeking an Investigator to assist Assistant Solicitors-General in prosecuting misdemeanor cases. You will gather and preserve evidence, work with law enforcement, interview victims and witnesses, file subpoenas, and help prepare cases for prosecution.

Candidates must be a U.S. citizen, hold a high school diploma, have CH legal rights clearance, and be P.O.S.T certified, with firearm proficiency and a Georgia driver’s license.

  • No prior felony or disqualifying convictions.

Responsibilities

  • Gather and preserve evidence.
  • Coordinate with law enforcement to develop cases.

Cherokee County Solicitor-General’s Office

The Office of the Cherokee County Solicitor-General has an opening for an Investigator. The essential function of a Solicitor-General’s Investigator is to assist Assistant Solicitors-General in the prosecution of misdemeanor criminal cases. Investigators are responsible for gathering and preserving evidence; working with law enforcement agencies to develop cases; interviewing/speaking to victims, witnesses and defendants; filing and serving subpoenas; assisting prosecutors in the courtroom and preparing cases for prosecution; assisting in the administration and organization of case files; mailing victim impact statements; and performing related clerical tasks. In addition, other related duties may be required and assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Applicant must be a citizen of the United States, have a high school diploma or its recognized equivalent, and not have been convicted by any state or the federal government of any crime.
  • Applicant must be a current P.O.S.T certified Georgia Peace Officer willing to become a certified Drug Recognition Expert within 12 months of accepting employment.
  • Applicant must demonstrate proficiency with a firearm.
  • Applicant must possess a valid Georgia Driver’s license.

Applicants selected for hire will be subject to fingerprinting, a criminal history background check, a motor vehicle driver’s history check and pre-employment drug screening; employment is contingent upon the completion and satisfactory results of each investigation.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience as a law enforcement officer (municipal, county, state, or federal) or as an investigator for a prosecution office is preferred. Candidates already possessing certification as a Drug Recognition Expert will be prioritized.

Salary Range:

Commensurate with experience.
