Job summary

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of experience in law enforcement, criminal investigations, legal investigations, or related field.
  • Must possess and maintain Georgia POST Certification and GCIC/NCIC Terminal Operator Certification within one year of hire.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate trials with Assistant District Attorney's, subpoena witnesses, locate witnesses, and maintain trial documentation.
  • Prepare and review discovery materials for defendants in compliance with Georgia law.
  • Assist in case presentation order and Grand Jury activities for DA's offices.
  • Interview civilian arrest warrant cases to evaluate charge validity and provide recommendations.
  • Locate, subpoena, and secure records (hospital, Health Department, banking) for charges and trial use.
  • Review case files with ADA's, provide exculpatory materials prior to trial, and manage witness lists and statements.
  • Assist ADA in trial preparation, jury selection, and probation revocation hearings; coordinate meetings with victims and agencies.
  • Coordinate with E-911 for trial recordings; review video/audio transcripts with relevant parties; operate GCIC CJIS access.
  • Locate witnesses and serve subpoenas to secure attendance at hearings and trials; initiate investigations of criminal activity.

Floyd County is looking for an Investigator!

JOB SUMMARY:

The purpose of this classification is to coordinate trials with Assistant District Attorney's to include subpoenaing and locating witnesses, serving witnesses, conducting investigative interviews for trial, obtaining taped statements for trial, and maintain documentation and cross-examination of all witnesses throughout the trial for use in cross examinations and closing arguments.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Reviews criminal cases for arraignment with ADA and provides documentation (discovery material) to the defendant or his attorney before trial as required by GA law. Prepares or completes various forms, reports, and correspondence.
  • Coordinates case presentation order and assists District Attorney during presentations at Grand Jury hearings.
  • Interviews all civilian arrest warrant cases to evaluate the validity of the charges; provides recommendations to the Chief District Attorney to either dismiss or approve civilian arrest warrant cases.
  • Locates, subpoenas, and secures hospital records, Health Department records, banking records, or other documentation for use in assessment of criminal charges and for prosecution at trial.
  • Provides case reviews and investigation for Victim Witness Office.
  • Assists ADA's in reviewing case files, makes copies, and provides exculpatory material as defined by law to defense attorneys at least ten days prior to trial, to include copies of accusations, indictments, witness lists, portions of case reports, victim and witness statements, in custody defendant statements, defendant criminal/driver histories, and sentence recommendations.
  • Assists ADA in preparing criminal cases for trial, including jury selection. Assists ADA during probation revocation hearings.
  • Coordinates meeting with victims, witnesses, victims’ families, and Assistant District Attorneys. Acts as liaison with the general public, local or out-of-town law enforcement agencies, medical personnel and defense attorneys.
  • Coordinates requests with E-911 center to obtain recordings for use in trial. Reviews video, audio, and transcripts with witnesses, defendants, and defense attorneys as required by law prior to trial.
  • Runs criminal and driver histories. Must obtain and maintain certification to be a GCIC terminal operator that accesses the CJIS network.
  • Locates witnesses and serves subpoenas to secures the attendance of witnesses at hearings and trials.
  • Initiates investigations of criminal activity.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or equivalent, and two (2) years of experience in law enforcement, criminal investigations, legal investigations, or a related field, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Peace Office Standards & Training (POST)Law Enforcement Officer Certification, and a valid GCIC/NCIC Terminal Operator Certification within one (1) year of hire. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
