Job Summary

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Investigative Structural Engineer to join an established engineering firm specializing in structural and architectural remediation, building forensics, structural repairs, and engineering consulting for residential and commercial properties.

This role combines structural engineering investigations, forensic analysis, technical reporting, and structural design. The successful candidate will investigate building damage, structural deficiencies, and building envelope issues; evaluate existing conditions; perform engineering calculations; and develop practical recommendations to address identified problems. Additional responsibilities include designing, detailing, and drafting structural systems for new construction, additions, alterations, and repair projects.

The engineer will manage multiple projects simultaneously, prepare detailed reports of findings, coordinate directly with clients, and collaborate with a geographically distributed engineering team. This position is ideal for an independent problem-solver who enjoys technically challenging projects, applying engineering principles to unique situations, and delivering clear, defensible recommendations.

Candidates must hold a bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering from an ABET-accredited university and have at least three years of relevant experience. Proficiency in structural analysis software, AutoCAD, Revit, and current building codes is required. Professional licensure as a PE, SE, or RA is preferred.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct structural and forensic investigations of existing residential and commercial buildings to identify damage, deficiencies, and potential causes of failure.
  • Evaluate structural components, foundations, building envelopes, and other building systems as applicable to each project.
  • Perform site inspections, document existing conditions, analyze findings, and develop engineering recommendations for repairs and remediation.
  • Prepare clear, accurate, and technically sound investigation reports, including supporting calculations, photographs, and documentation.
  • Perform structural engineering calculations and design structural systems for new construction, additions, alterations, and repair projects.
  • Prepare and review engineering drawings, construction details, and technical documentation using AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Apply applicable building codes, construction standards, and engineering principles to evaluate existing conditions and develop design solutions.
  • Manage multiple projects, schedules, deliverables, and client communications to ensure timely completion.
  • Coordinate directly with clients, contractors, and internal team members throughout investigations and design assignments.
  • Communicate technical findings and recommendations clearly in written reports and verbal discussions.
  • Travel to project sites throughout Colorado, with occasional out-of-state travel as required.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Architectural Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in building design, drafting, structural consulting, forensic investigation, or a related field involving buildings and grounds.
  • Proficiency with structural analysis software such as RISA, Enercalc, or equivalent programs.
  • Working proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Microsoft Office, and PDF editing software.
  • Knowledge of applicable building codes, structural design principles, construction practices, and industry standards.
  • Strong analytical, technical problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, customer service, organizational, and time-management abilities.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a remote engineering team.
  • Ability to conduct site inspections involving climbing ladders, accessing pitched roofs and confined areas, and lifting up to 40 pounds.
  • Must be based in Colorado's Denver / Front Range area or be willing to relocate.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE), Structural Engineer (SE), or Registered Architect (RA) license in Colorado or another state.
  • Master's degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering.
  • Experience in structural forensics, building envelope investigations, damage assessment, remediation, and repair design.
  • Experience preparing engineering reports and communicating technical findings to clients.
  • Experience managing multiple consulting or engineering projects independently.
