Job summary

The Houston Chronicle is seeking an investigative reporter to join our award-winning investigations team, the largest in Texas. This role lets you mold a beat and collaborate across a newsroom renowned for impact and recognition.

You will report to the Senior Director of Investigations and work on accountability stories spanning government, energy, healthcare and more, using data, public records requests and multimedia to engage diverse audiences.

Qualifications

• Has at least five years producing original accountability stories with impact on laws, lives or communities.
• Familiarity with Texas and ability to identify opportunities quickly with rigor and fairness.
• thrives in fast-paced, collaborative environments and writes with clarity and precision.
• Experienced with data reporting, public records requests, and presenting findings to diverse audiences.

Responsibilities

• Pitches, reports and produces coverage that drives conversation and impacts the region’s power brokers’ decisions.
• Owns all subsequent reporting, impact and updates around key investigative storylines.
• Collaborates with reporters, editors, visual journalists and audience colleagues to elevate accountability reporting.
• Works with visual, audience and data teams to present investigations in engaging formats beyond traditional print.
