Job summary

TEGNA, Inc. is hiring a Special Projects Producer in a hybrid role with preferred location in Denver. The candidate will acquire, analyze and validate information powering data-driven reporting and write for broadcast, streaming, and online platforms.

You will work with Consumer, Health, and Investigative teams to surface ideas, provide evidence, and strengthen breaking and enterprise reporting, while collaborating with national, product, and local teams.

Qualifications

• 2–3 years in data analysis, research, investigative journalism or related field.
• 1–2 years in broadcast news line or segment producing and video editing.
• Experience in local or national newsroom is preferred.
• Proficient with spreadsheets, SQL and data visualization tools.
• Experience using AI tools to support data research and analysis.
• Familiarity with public records requests and government data.
• Strong research, verification, and organizational skills.
• Ability to clearly communicate findings to reporters and partners.

Responsibilities

• Acquire data through public records requests and gov't databases.
• Organize, document, and maintain datasets for reporting.
• Monitor datasets for trends and story opportunities.
• Conduct quick-turn data analysis for breaking news.
• Provide analytical support for enterprise and investigative projects.
• Conduct background research on diverse topics.
• Conduct and record expert interviews.
• Write articles and show scripts.
• Edit video for streaming and broadcast shows.
• Use AI tools to support data research and analysis.
• Build timelines, comparisons, and contextual analysis.
• Fact-check data, figures, and methodologies.
• Translate findings into clear summaries for reporters and partners.
• Collaborate with reporters and local market teams.
