Indiana University Health System seeks an experienced IDS pharmacy technician to join the University Hospital team. You will manage investigational drugs, assist with inventory, and document transactions under the IDS pharmacist, with occasional travel to IU North, IU West, and IU Fishers as needed.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Indiana Pharmacy Technician License OR intern/extern license if enrolled in accredited college of pharmacy.
  • Pharmacy Technician National Certification required unless enrolled in accredited college of pharmacy; 5+ relevant experience preferred.
  • Criminal history related to drugs must be absent.
  • Strong mathematical calculation skills required.
  • Full proficiency as a pharmacy technician in assigned areas under limited supervision.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Strong customer service skills required.
  • Intermediate proficiency typing and using Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

  • Receives investigational drug products from sponsors and confirms correct product received.
  • Documents inventory transactions in drug accountability systems.
  • Processes damaged, expired, or dispensed products for returns.
  • Distributes and stocks in appropriate storage space.
  • Maintains inventory of drugs and supplies; checks expiration dating.
  • Assists with preparing invoices for billing.
  • Under supervision of IDS pharmacist, assists with internal audits of dispensing records.
  • Monitors refrigerators/freezers temperatures and environmental controls.
  • Compiles inventory or environmental reports for sponsors or regulatory needs.
  • Fills prescriptions or prepares sterile/non-sterile compounding of study drugs.
  • Prepares and packages investigational drugs for shipping.
  • Assists with medication reconciliation of IDS agents.
  • Delivers IP to the unit or patient when required.
  • Submits drug destruction information to the sponsor.
  • Assists IDS pharmacist with site initiation and monitoring visits.
  • Trains technician staff and provides just-in-time feedback for accuracy.

About this role:
  • Shift Schedule: Full time, days, no weekends or holidays, shifts will be scheduled between 8:00am-4:30pm
  • Responsibilities: Working with study team and monitors, not customer facing.
  • Location: Position is based at University Hospital, with occasional travel to IU North, IU West, and IU Fishers as needed.
Description:

  • Receives investigational drug products from various study drug sponsors via various carriers/couriers and confirms correct product received.
  • Documents inventory transactions in investigational drug studies drug accountability systems.
  • Processes damaged, expired, or dispensed products for returns.
  • Distributes and stocks in appropriate storage space.
  • Assists with maintaining the inventory of drugs and supplies, and confirming inventory counts and checking expiration dating.
  • Assists with preparing invoices for billing.
  • Under the supervision of the IDS pharmacist, assists with internal auditing of drug dispensing records to ensure compliance and identify and elevate any discrepancies to the IDS pharmacist.
  • Monitors refrigerators and freezers temperatures and other environmental controls as required for drug storage. Identify and elevate to facilities to address and resolve any environmental issues.
  • Assists with compiling inventory or environmental reports for sponsors or regulatory requirements.
  • Fills prescriptions or performs sterile and non-sterile compounding investigational of study drugs.
  • Prepares and packages investigational drugs for shipping.
  • Assists with medication reconciliation of IDS agents.
  • Delivers IP to the unit and/or to the patient when required.
  • Submits drug destruction information to the sponsor.
  • Assists IDS pharmacist with site initiation and monitoring visits.
