Job summary

Rumpke Waste and Recycling, a leading waste and recycling company, is seeking an Inventory Supervisor in Louisville, KY. The role involves supervising an inventory team, managing parts availability for the maintenance department, and ensuring cost-effective operations.

Strong organizational and communication skills are essential, as is experience with inventory systems and OEM parts. Responsibilities include audits, core parts tracking, warranty processes, and liaison with OEMs.

Qualifications

  • 2–3 years inventory, vehicle parts, or equipment supply experience
  • Previous management experience preferred
  • Experience with OEMs (Navistar, Mack, McNeilus) preferred
  • Waste industry experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Supervise inventory staff (6–10 employees) including hiring, training, scheduling, performance management and safety compliance
  • Manage inventory control programs and ensure regulatory compliance
  • Perform annual inventories and quarterly audits
  • Track and manage core parts
  • Oversee warranty processes and claims processing
  • Maintain relationships with OEMs for purchasing parts and troubleshooting
  • Control maintenance costs related to personnel, purchasing and inventory
  • Maintain proper records and files
  • Order and reconcile fuel/CNG and maintenance compliance at fuel/CNG island
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Inventory Supervisors are responsible for managing a team of specialists ensuring the availability of parts for the maintenance department in a cost-effective and efficient manner.

Responsibilities of Position:
  • Supervise the inventory staff including, but not limited to, hiring, training, scheduling work assignments, managing performance, maintaining safety/compliance standards and processes, and handling disciplinary issues
  • Manage & utilize inventory control programs while maintaining compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policies and procedures
  • Perform annual year end inventories and random quarterly audits
  • Track and manage core parts
  • Manage warranty processes and claims processing
  • Maintain contact with business representatives from original equipment manufacturers for purchasing inventory parts and troubleshooting deficiencies with products and/or deliveries
  • Review and control maintenance costs relating to personnel, purchasing, and inventory control
  • Maintain proper records and files
  • Order and reconcile fuel/CNG and maintenance compliance at fuel/CNG island
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibility:
  • This position will manage 6-10 employees
  • This position will not oversee and direct other managers
Skills & Abilities Needed for Position:
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure, take initiative, and maintain flexibility
  • Ability to follow and motivate other to follow standard purchasing procedures and policies
  • Proven problem-solving skills with strong sense of urgency
  • Self‑motivated and capable of working independently
  • Excellent computer skills; Microsoft Office; AS400, Lotus Notes, TMT, and vendor site applications a plus
Experience & Knowledge Needed for Position:
  • Minimum 2-3 years inventory, vehicle parts, or equipment supply experience
  • Previous management experience preferred
  • Experience with Navistar, Mack, McNeilus, and/or other original equipment manufacturers and related equipment preferred
  • Waste industry experience preferred
Physical Requirements in a Regular Workday:
  • Frequently lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 20 lbs
  • Occasionally lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 35 lbs
  • Rarely lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 75 lbs
  • Occasionally working outside in changing temperatures, wet/humid conditions
  • Continuously working in areas of dust, odors, mist, gases, and other airborne matter
  • Occasionally stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling
  • Rarely climbing and/or balancing
  • Frequently sitting/standing/walking
Additional Working Conditions/Aspects:
  • Possible exposure to high traffic conditions and/or tight driving areas
  • Exposure to residential and commercial waste
  • Ability to travel between offices, as required
  • Ability to work flexible hours; expected to work nights and weekends as needed
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, and/or holidays
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States
  • Valid driver's license (if applicable)
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment testing
  • Must be able to read and speak the English language
