Job description

Life Unlimited. At Smith+ Nephew we design and manufacture technology that takes the limits off living. The Inventory Specialist function is a critical component of Smith+ Nephew's overall US Supply Chain strategy. We are the last mile and the difference between success and failure in thousands of hospitals and surgery centers each day, where our customers are helping their patients improve their lives. It can and will be stressful, but it is rewarding knowing that you played a critical part in the positive outcome for a patient whose life is being restored through our products.

As an Inventory Specialist 2, you are responsible for maintaining accurate inventory records as products move throughout the territory. Accountability of products missing from instrument sets is critical to ensuring accurate billing, compliance, and customer service. You will play a key role in case coverage, inventory management, logistics coordination, and data analysis. This position is an on‑site member of the Logistics Team within a territory sales office. The role is responsible for implementing company inventory and asset management policies and procedures at the territory and area level. This includes maximizing asset utilization, minimizing inventory and instrument investment, maintaining accurate product placement records, and supporting the successful execution of surgical cases through inventory planning and coordination.

What will you be doing?

Perform daily operational activities including picking and packing finished goods, maintaining inventory accuracy, sourcing surgical cases, and proactively communicating with Sales Representatives. Manage inventory levels throughout the sales district to ensure the right products are available at the right location and time. Coordinate surgery schedules and ensure the accurate and timely preparation and delivery of instruments and implant sets for surgical procedures. Execute all product recall activities immediately to ensure regulatory and quality compliance requirements are met. Partner closely with Quality and Regulatory teams to support compliance processes and corrective actions. Ensure all consignment locations maintain valid consignment agreements and custody documentation. Conduct field cycle counts and inventory audits to maintain inventory accuracy. Coordinate and participate in territory physical inventories, including reconciliation activities and variance investigations. Perform semi‑annual IAP validations and ensure adjustments are completed accurately. Analyze inventory asset levels and utilization trends to maximize efficiency and improve sales performance. Perform instrument and implant utilization analysis and provide recommendations for inventory optimization. Partner with Sales Management, Sales Representatives, and Logistics leadership to improve inventory deployment strategies. Generate and distribute monthly, quarterly, and annual inventory and product reports. Perform financial and operational analysis impacting territory and area P&L activities. Process required order entry activities supporting daily surgical cases. Conduct MOVE Medical system reviews in partnership with Field Logistics Specialists. Perform freight activity reviews and monitor FedEx and courier utilization to optimize transportation expenses. Maintain compliance with company asset utilization goals and inventory management standards. Provide on‑call support as required. Learn and effectively utilize inventory management systems, including MOVE Medical and SAP. Train, coach, and direct other personnel on inventory, logistics, and operational procedures. Support continuous improvement initiatives that increase inventory accuracy, customer service, and operational efficiency.
