  • Energy industry experience in warehouse operations and materials management is desired.

Job description

The Inventory Specialist is responsible for leading inventory management, planning and reporting for Targa Resources operations, maintenance, and capital projects. This position provides subject matter support and oversight of warehouse technicians to safely ensure inventory requirements are met through stock replenishment purchases, shipment inspections and receipts, and proper storage and issuance of materials for usage. With a service-oriented approach, this role requires collaboration across internal field stakeholders and with corporate functions to reconcile financial balances and continuously improve materials management practices and systems with warehouse operations. To perform this role satisfactorily, the Inventory Specialist must be able to perform all essential job duties with minimal supervision; including the administrative and physical tasks and travel requirements involved with developing and improving Targa Resources warehouse operations and materials management practices.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Responsible for leading the delivery of Targa Resources warehousing strategies, materials management, and governance standards for field operations and project demands.
  • Support the advancement and implementation of Targa Resources warehousing and materials management program across the enterprise.
  • Maintain positive relationships with internal stakeholders and external suppliers to ensure inventory solutions and objectives are met.
  • Plan, design and execute warehousing deployment projects, inventory implementation requirements, and materials controls activities.
  • Evaluate, recommend, and implement warehouse and inventory management best practices, standards, and any special requirements for maintaining and storing inventory.
  • Develop and support warehouse technicians to consistently follow Targa Resources inventory management processes, including inventory replenishment, receiving, stocking, staging, issuing and returning activities.
  • Support tracking of material requirements and availability of parts for upcoming planned maintenance and/or urgent corrective maintenance parts when needed.
  • Work with the warehouse technicians and internal stakeholders to determine appropriate stocking levels, economic reorder quantities (min/max) for Targa standard volumes, and location specific requirements.
  • Ensure accurate inventory records are stored, maintained, and accessible when needed.
  • Perform cycle counts and periodic inventory counts and reconciliations with financial accounting and warehouse technicians.
  • Track aging inventory and recommend write-downs, as needed.
  • Work with operations and procurement to determine surplus, obsolete, or slow-moving materials and implement disposition strategies that bring the best return on value.
  • Support engineering and project accounting with journal voucher entries for material transfers.
  • Manage and report inventory KPIs and insights for materials demand forecasts and supply planning.
  • Oversee and provide back-up support to the warehouse technician, as needed.
  • Adhere to required safety policies, guidelines, and training.
  • Ensure safe handling procedures for inventory are followed and practiced with Warehouse Technicians.
  • Promote warehouse cleanliness and safety protocols in compliance with OSHA and Targa safety policies.
  • Take reasonable care for the safety and health of yourself and others, report workplace hazards, injuries, or illness immediately.
  • Available outside normal business hours when special needs arise to serve stakeholder or project needs.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
  • Ability to travel up to 100% as project or business demands arise.
MINIMUM ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chan or Operations Management
  • Or, 5+ years of equivalent materials management experience will be considered in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.
  • 5+ years related warehouse/yard experience.
  • Valid driver license with the ability to meet the Targa vehicle policy.
  • Valid certification in operating materials handling equipment is a plus or able to obtain forklift certification if needed.
  • Intermediate proficiency with MS Office suite in Excel, Word, Power Point, and Visio.
  • Prior experience with materials management systems required.
  • Experience with Maximo and Oracle systems is preferred.
  • Energy industry experience in warehouse operations and materials management is desired.
  • Comfortable with meeting the physical demands working in a plant environment, alongside plant operators and inspectors, construction personnel and transportation providers.
  • Ability to physically set up warehouses and stock materials in a safe manner.
  • Knowledge of pipe, valves, fittings, and other mechanical equipment and parts used in pipelines and gas plants is desired.
  • Knowledge of materials specifications, part numbers, and bar/QR coding or other inventory tracking mechanisms is a plus.
  • Ability to develop a strategic approach with problem solving and demonstrate good judgement for materials storage and control solutions.
  • Must be detail oriented, organized, methodical and efficient with work assignments.
  • Must maintain appropriate financial stewardship of company expenses and corporate card policies.
  • Excellent communication, including written and verbal skills.
  • Ability to learn Targa Resources warehouse operations and business processes.
  • Ability to learn federal, health and safety regulations.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities with minimal supervision under challenging conditions.
  • Regular and reliable attendance.
