Job summary

Colsafety is seeking an Inventory Planner to manage inventory levels and supplier relations in Columbia, MO. The role focuses on lean inventory for slower-turning items while meeting customer expectations and supporting profitability.

You will monitor requirements, set replenishment parameters, and communicate with vendors and leadership. This full-time, on-site position offers opportunities for growth within the Supply Chain department.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, or related field.
• 3 years of work experience in a Buyer or Planning role.
• Experience using ERP systems with forecasting/demand planning capabilities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Monitor purchasing requirements and manage inventory levels.
• Analyze inventory needs and urgency to determine fulfillment approaches.
• Assist in setting replenishment parameters and influencing stock levels.
• Create advance buys and scheduled deliveries based on demand history.
• Communicate with purchasing team and leadership on new developments.
• Create and send purchase orders to vendors.
• Resolve issues in shipping, pricing, or quantity.
• Compile POS and consignment reports.
• Liaise between internal and external customers to resolve issues.
• Evaluate, clarify, and act on customer forecast information.

Description

The Inventory Planner / Buyer is responsible for managing item inventory with a sense of urgency and focus in order to meet or exceed customers’ expectations while keeping the inventory volume of slower-turning / less profitable inventory categories/items lean. The actions of the Inventory Planner / Buyer as it pertains to managing inventory and vendor
relations, reducing expenses, and increasing profit margins, are actions vital to our continued growth and profitability.
The Inventory Planner / Buyer will provide support to stakeholders via daily tasks and projects and contributions to personal and departmental goals. Personal goal attainment toward employee development and growth within the organization will be crucial.

Requirements for success:

• Monitor purchasing requirements and manage inventory levels
• Analyze inventory needs and urgency to determine the best way to fulfill requirements
• Assist in setting replenishment parameters and influencing order levels for stockable inventory
• Create advance buys and scheduled deliveries based on demand history and growth expectations
• Communicate with purchasing team and leadership on any new developments in sales and vendors

Ideal candidate qualities include:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related field.

• Experience using ERP systems with forecasting/demand planning capabilities.
• Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).
• Demonstrated ability to drive improvement with an assigned set of suppliers.
