Job summary

Orion Outdoors Company is seeking a hands-on Inventory & Firearms Operations role on-site in Michigan. You will oversee receiving, inspection, logging, and transfer of firearms, ensuring accurate records and compliance with ATF regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, inspect, process, log, and transfer firearms in compliance with ATF regulations and company policies.
  • Execute all firearms shipping and receiving activities with secure packaging, documentation, and chain-of-custody control.
  • Maintain accurate acquisition/disposition records and reconcile physical inventory with systems.
  • Perform ongoing inventory reconciliation across in-store, online, and third-party marketplaces; resolve discrepancies.
  • Price, tag, and present inventory consistently across locations and channels.
  • Manage online inventory listings with accurate descriptions, specs, and imagery.
  • Organize storage bays and ensure a secure, orderly storage environment; follow 5S standards.
  • Conduct regular inventory counts, investigate variances, and document resolutions.
  • Coordinate inventory transfers between locations with proper documentation and secure transport.
  • Prepare firearms for sale, transfer, or shipment, including required compliance steps.
  • Support ATF inspections and audits with well-organized records.
  • Provide receptionist/administrative support during peak periods; assist customers.

JOB OVERVIEW:

This is a hands-on, detail-driven role at the center of our firearms operations. The individual in this position is directly responsible for the physical flow, accuracy, and presentation of our inventory—from receiving and compliance logging to shipping and online listings - playing a critical role in how our firearms are managed, represented, and delivered.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Personally receive, inspect, process, log, and transfer firearms in full compliance with ATF regulations, state law, and company policies.
  • Execute all firearms shipping and receiving activities, including secure packaging, documentation, carrier coordination, and chain-of-custody control.
  • Maintain accurate acquisition and disposition records for all firearms and serialized items, ensuring complete alignment between physical inventory and inventory systems.
  • Perform ongoing inventory reconciliation and reclamation across all sales channels, including in-store inventory, the company website, GunBroker, and GunsInternational, promptly identifying and resolving discrepancies.
  • Price and tag all inventory, including firearms and pro shop merchandise, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and professional presentation.
  • Maintain pricing coherence across all locations and channels, ensuring prices are aligned and updated consistently throughout in-store systems, online platforms, and third-party marketplaces.
  • Create, update, and manage online inventory listings, including writing accurate descriptions, verifying specifications, uploading imagery, and ensuring brand-aligned presentation.
  • Physically organize and maintain all storage bays, vaults, and inventory areas, ensuring a secure, orderly, and efficient environment.
  • Implement and follow 5S methodology for inventory storage, organization, labeling, and workflow consistency.
  • Conduct regular inventory counts and reconciliations, investigate variances, and resolve issues in a timely and documented manner.
  • Handle inventory transfers between company locations, ensuring proper documentation, secure transport, and accurate system updates.
  • Prepare firearms for sale, transfer, or shipment, including inspection, configuration verification, and coordination of required compliance steps.
  • Support ATF inspections, audits, and internal reviews by maintaining organized, accurate, and readily accessible records.
  • Provide limited general receptionist and administrative support as needed, including answering phones, assisting customers, and supporting front-of-house operations during peak periods.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to increase accuracy, efficiency, and consistency across inventory management, logistics, and digital merchandising workflows.
SCHEDULE:

This is a full-time, on-site position. Some weekend availability is required.

COMPENSATION:

Starting hourly wage from $18.00 - $22.00 per hour, commensurate with experience, education, and technical or technological proficiency. This is a full-time position with minimal expected overtime, so strong time management and the ability to work efficiently during regular hours are important. Performance-based bonuses may be available, offering additional earning potential for high achievers.
