Job description

The Department of Genetic Medicine is seeking to hire an Inventory & Distribution Coordinator to follow established protocol to assure that all receiving and shipments are processed and completed accurately on a daily basis. This Coordinator will need to receive and monitor inventory, ensure quality and integrity of material, and deliver to researchers in an expedited manner, with appropriate document control. This position includes deliveries to Bayview and Homewood campuses.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Handle all aspects of inventory and distribution.
  • Train new delivery staff and students. Set student assignments and monitors progress and deficiencies.
  • Open delivery areas at start of workday.
  • Unpack deliveries from Core Store suppliers.
  • Ensure deliveries are covered and completed accurately and timely.
  • Monitor the alarm system and respond to freezer alarms.
  • Deliver Core Store inventory products to individual research labs as needed.
  • Coordinate delivery routes by building and campus, and operate delivery vehicle to deliver inventory to Bayview and Homewood Campus
  • Defrost freezers and maintain equipment.
  • Generates and organizes the quarterly inventory report.
  • Maintain the stability and integrity of inventory items.
  • Process all orders within the database to create daily invoices for delivery (100+ POs).
  • Responsible for weekly reporting and removal of chemical waste and drop off.
  • Responsible for inventory and space management for over 700 stocked items and hundreds of special-order chemicals.
  • Establish and upgrade delivery protocols for all delivery routes and staff and ensures adherence to establish protocols.
  • Communicate directly with Biotech companies to monitor outstanding orders.
  • Adapt to changes in protocol as inventory and distribution needs arise.

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Required: Proficient in the use of the Sensaphone alarm system. Must be able to multitask and have strong attention to detail. Willing to adapt to change.
  • Preferred: Outgoing, friendly, knowledgeable, and highly responsible.
  • Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certifications
  • HIPAA, DOT/IATA Dangerous Goods Shipping, Chemical Waste Management (obtained after employment).
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with clean driving record.


Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma / GED.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond HS Diploma/Graduation Equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree in a related discipline.

Starting Salary Range: $16.20 - $28.80 HRLY ($46,800 targeted; Commensurate w/exp.)

Total Rewards
The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of Johns Hopkins University's salary range for this position. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, education/training and other qualifications. Education and Experience Equivalency
Please refer to the job description above to see which forms of equivalency are permitted for this position. If permitted, equivalencies will follow these guidelines: JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
