Job summary

Qualifications

  • Must have high school diploma or GED and complete hospital core/orientation units in a reasonable time.
  • Strong communication and basic math skills are required.
  • Mechanically inclined with ability to troubleshoot and maintain surgery equipment.
  • Able to read and interpret data from equipment and computers.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks under stress and maintain confidentiality.

Location BMH Bronson Methodist Hospital Title Inventory Coordinator

The Supplies/Equip/Inventory Coordinator is responsible for the basic troubleshooting and maintenance of equipment in Surgical Services. Responsible for coordinating unit in-services for equipment and functions as a resource for the units. Accountable for equipment trials and works under direct supervision of Surgery Managers and in cooperation with Materials Management and Clinical Coordinators for pricing and capital requests. Responsible for equipment control, coordination, and documentation of equipment preventative maintenance and repairs.

Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) Successful completion of hospital core, department specific and orientation unit within a reasonable amount of time

  • Skill and proficiency in oral and written grammar, communication and basic mathematics
  • Mechanically inclined and trained in basic troubleshooting and maintenance of equipment used in surgery
  • Able to read and interpret data from equipment and computers.
  • Must be able to manage several job tasks simultaneously and be able to function effectively under stressful situations.

Work which produces levels of mental/visual fatigue which are typical of jobs that perform a wide variety of duties with frequent and significant uncontrollable deadlines. Work may include the operation of and full attention to a personal computer or CRT up to 40 percent of the time. Involves regularly lifting of bulky or moderately heavy weights (i.e., up to 50 pounds), and occasionally assisting with heavier tasks or expending the equivalent effort in pushing, pulling, or otherwise handling material, equipment, and other objects.

  • Works as a team member with surgery management, clinical coordinators, and materials management departments in pricing new/replacement equipment for all age groups/specialty items.
  • Sets up trials for new equipment, monitors, use, and summarizes evaluations.
  • Researches comparable products with regards to effectiveness, safeness, use, price, etc. and submits recommendations.
  • Troubleshoots problems with equipment, coordinates preventative maintenance and repair of equipment, and cleans specified equipment.
  • Coordinates repair of equipment with clinical equipment maintenance, maintenance department, and/or company representative.
  • Coordinates maintenance of anesthesia machines on routine schedule.
  • Troubleshoots any malfunctioning equipment.
  • Participates in negotiating preventative maintenance and repair service contracts.
  • Teaches others preventative maintenance and troubleshooting techniques for equipment and resources staff with equipment related issues.
  • Communicates equipment-related information to appropriate people and documents important information.
  • Communicates with clinical equipment maintenance for safety checks on all new equipment.
  • Establishes and organizes log for equipment control, preventative maintenance and cleaning schedule.
  • Develops and provides positive work environment and the overall team effort.

(BMH Only) Function as a Patient Safety Assistant for suicide precautions only, which includes, Safe patient handling required. Responsibilities include observation and reporting patient activities and behaviors and appropriate response intervention to assure patient safety. The Patient Safety Assistant will demonstrate appropriate communication skills with patient/patient family and other healthcare providers, and practice confidentiality and safety procedures as defined by agency. The Patient Safety Assistant provide services in accordance with policy and procedure manuals. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served. Maintain appropriate knowledge level to assist in patient turns and assist in patient transfer to commode/bathroom. Uses correct body positioning, proper body mechanics to avoid injury, utilizes safe work practices (e.g. pushing vs. pulling, patient transfer/lifting devices, etc.) and uses personal protective equipment when necessary. 80% Observation and prevention of unsafe patient behavior/activity. 10% Communicating with the responsible RN about patient status and pertinent input to facilitate care planning. 5% Accompanies patients for diagnostic tests occasionally. 5% Mantains a clean and orderly environment.
