Job description

About Jerritt Canyon

The Jerritt Canyon deposit was discovered in 1972, and the first gold production from the property occurred in 1981. The Jerritt Canyon property contains 30,821 hectares of mining claims located in the mining-friendly state of Nevada. First Majestic acquired the Jerritt Canyon Gold Mine from Sprott Mining Inc. on April 30, 2021. In May 2023, operations were suspended to prioritize exploration and technical studies. Jerritt Canyon is now entering a new phase of evaluation and planning, requiring substantial technical support to advance the work necessary for a potential future restart of operations.

The Opportunity

The Inventory Controller is responsible for maintaining accurate, reliable, and cost-effective inventory levels to support safe and continuous underground mining operations. This position oversees the receipt, storage, tracking, issuing, replenishment, and reconciliation of mining parts, consumables, equipment components, tools, and critical spares.

The Inventory Controller works closely with the Warehouse, Maintenance, Mobile Equipment, Mine Operations, Procurement, and Supply Chain teams to ensure that critical materials are available when required while minimizing excess, obsolete, and slow-moving inventory.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain accurate inventory records for underground mining parts, components, consumables, tools, PPE, and critical spares.
  • Monitor inventory quantities, minimum/maximum levels, reorder points, and safety-stock requirements.
  • Conduct regular cycle counts, physical inventories, and inventory reconciliations.
  • Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies, variances, damaged materials, and stock losses.
  • Identify slow-moving, obsolete, surplus, and excess inventory and make recommendations for disposition or redistribution.
  • Ensure critical and high-value mining components are properly identified, controlled, and readily available.
  • Maintain accurate part numbers, descriptions, units of measure, storage locations, and inventory classifications.
  • Support inventory forecasting and replenishment activities based on maintenance and production requirements.
  • Ensure timely availability of parts and consumables required to support underground production and maintenance activities.
  • Work closely with maintenance personnel to identify critical spares and anticipated material requirements.
  • Coordinate the staging and issuing of materials for underground work orders and planned maintenance.
  • Monitor inventory requirements for mobile mining equipment, fixed plant, ventilation systems, pumping systems, electrical equipment, ground-support activities, and other underground infrastructure.
  • Assist with the identification of critical equipment components that could create significant production or safety impacts if unavailable.
  • Support emergency and breakdown requirements by locating and issuing required parts quickly and accurately.
  • Maintain appropriate controls for materials transported between surface facilities, warehouses, and underground work areas.
  • Receive incoming materials and verify quantities, part numbers, condition, and documentation against purchase orders or delivery records.
  • Ensure materials are correctly labeled, identified, and entered into the inventory management system.
  • Store materials in appropriate locations while maintaining safe, organized, and accessible warehouse areas.
  • Issue materials against approved work orders, requisitions, or other authorized documentation.
  • Ensure inventory transactions are completed accurately and promptly.
  • Apply appropriate inventory rotation practices, including FIFO where applicable.
  • Maintain proper storage conditions for sensitive, hazardous, or specialized mining materials.

The above responsibilities are representative and may not include all assigned duties.

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Post-secondary education in Supply Chain Management, Inventory Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.
  • Relevant inventory, warehouse, logistics, or mining certifications are considered an asset.
  • Training or certification in hazardous materials handling or material-handling equipment is an asset.
  • 3-5 years of inventory control, warehouse, materials management, or supply chain experience required.
  • Previous experience supporting a mining, heavy industrial, manufacturing, construction, or other equipment-intensive operation strongly preferred.
  • Underground hard-rock mining experience is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience managing high-value, high-volume, or critical spare-parts inventories.
  • Experience conducting cycle counts, physical inventories, reconciliations, and variance investigations.
  • Experience using an ERP, computerized inventory management, or warehouse management system.
  • Experience working with maintenance departments and supporting planned and unplanned maintenance activities is preferred.
  • Experience handling mining equipment parts, mechanical components, electrical components, hydraulic components, tools, and industrial consumables is an asset.
