Job summary

City of St. Louis is seeking an Inventory Control Technician (Corrections) to stock, order and distribute equipment, supplies and materials within the Division of Corrections at the City Justice Center in Downtown St. Louis, MO.

The role focuses on data entry, inventory management, and distribution across departments. The candidate will handle a computerized inventory system, purging non-valuable items, and ensuring accurate inventory balances while supporting release operations and storage

Qualifications

  • One year of recent record keeping experience that includes some inventory control using a computerized inventory control system.
  • OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Data entry of all property items into the Integrated Jail Management System.
  • Routine purging of all non-valuable property bags.
  • Release of inmate personal property as required.
  • Inventory all hanging property storage bags.
  • Distribute property to release areas of the facility.
  • Stock, distribute, and track all purchases and supplies.
  • Maintain inventory of all supplies, equipment, and materials.
  • Coordinate pickups and deliveries and check in shipments.

Location: Downtown - St. Louis, MO

Incumbents in this position stock, order and distribute equipment, supplies, property and materials within the Division of Corrections. Examples of duties include: data entry of all items into a computerized inventory system; receiving, storing and distributing supplies and property, purging items and maintaining accurate inventory balances.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Data entry of all property items into the Integrated Jail Management System.
  • Routine purging of all non-valuable property bags.
  • Responsible for releasing all inmate personal property.
  • Inventory all hanging property storage bags.
  • Issues personal property to different release areas of the facility.
  • Takes inventory of supplies; performs related work in the operation and maintenance of a storeroom.
  • Orders and purchases supplies, equipment, and materials for a city department.
  • Checks incoming materials against invoices and purchase orders.
  • Stocks, distributes, and tracks all purchases.
  • Maintains inventory of all supplies, equipment, and materials.
  • Coordinates pickups and deliveries.
  • Receives, and checks in all shipments.
  • Prepares and maintains appropriate reports and files.
  • Directs and delivers supplies to other departments.
  • May deliver vehicles to and from shops for repair; refuels vehicles. Performs office clerical tasks as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Data Utilization: Requires the ability to process, calculate, compute, summate, and/or tabulate data and/or information. Includes the ability to perform subsequent action in relation to these computational operations.
  • Human Interaction: Requires the ability to explain, demonstrate and clarify to others within well-established policies, procedures and standards. Ability to follow specific instructions and respond to simple requests from others.
  • Equipment, Machinery, Tools and Materials Use: Requires the ability to operate, maneuver and/or provide simple but continuous adjustment on equipment, machinery and tools such as a computer, and/or materials used in performing essential functions.
  • Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference and descriptive data and information such as requisitions, purchase orders, expenditure reports, policies and procedures.
  • Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Involves semi-routine standardized work, with some latitude for independent judgment regarding choices of action.
  • Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving a variety of generally pre-defined duties that may be subject to frequent change.
  • Environmental Factors: Tasks may risk exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as traffic hazards.
  • Physical Requirements: Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work that may involve some lifting of moderately heavy objects and materials, twenty (20) to one hundred (100) pounds. Tasks require the ability to stoop, kneel, balance, bend, and climb in order to perform delivery duties.
  • Sensory Requirements: Requires the ability to recognize and identify individual characteristics of colors, shapes, and sounds associated with job-related objects, materials and tasks.
Qualifications

License

Must possess and maintain a valid Missouri driver’s license while employed by the City of St. Louis. Must possess a valid driver’s license at the time of filing application and be able to present license upon request. City Residence Preference Points

City residents who pass an examination for a position in the classified service and do not receive any other preference will receive a five (5) point preference on a scale of 100 points on the exam. An additional one (1) point shall be added to the passing score of City residents who receive any other preference on a scale of 100 points.City residents must have resided in the City for at least one (1) year at the time of filing their application to be eligible for the preference points.
