Job description

Summary:

The Inventory Control Specialist is responsible for the accurate and efficient management of all food and vegetable inventory, ensuring optimal stock levels, minimizing waste, and maintaining high quality. This role involves close collaboration with purchasing, receiving, kitchen staff (if applicable), and management to ensure smooth operations and efficient resource utilization.

Job Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities:

Inventory Management:
  1. Implement and maintain an inventory control system (manual or computerized).
  2. Conduct regular physical inventory counts (daily, weekly, monthly) and reconcile discrepancies between physical counts and system records.
  3. Monitor stock levels of all food and vegetable items, anticipating demand and adjusting par levels accordingly.
  4. Analyze inventory data to identify trends, slow-moving items, and potential shortages or overstock situations.
  5. Forecast future inventory needs based on historical data, upcoming events, and seasonal variations.
  6. Manage the rotation of stock (FIFO - First In, First Out) to minimize spoilage and maximize freshness.
  7. Monitor expiration dates and implement procedures for disposing of outdated or damaged products.
  8. Collaborate with purchasing to optimize ordering schedules and quantities.
  9. Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies, including spoilage, theft, and receiving errors.
  10. Maintain accurate records of all inventory transactions, including receipts, issues, and adjustments.
Quality Control:
  1. Inspect incoming deliveries of food and vegetables for quality, quantity, and compliance with specifications.
  2. Report any damaged, spoiled, or substandard products to the appropriate parties.
  3. Monitor storage conditions (temperature, humidity) to ensure product freshness and safety.
  4. Implement and enforce food safety and hygiene protocols.
Collaboration and Communication:
  1. Communicate effectively with purchasing, receiving, kitchen staff (if applicable), and management regarding inventory levels, potential shortages, and any other relevant information.
  2. Collaborate with the kitchen team (if applicable) to understand their needs and ensure timely delivery of ingredients.
  3. Provide regular inventory reports to management.
Other Duties:
  1. Assist with receiving and storing deliveries as needed.
  2. Maintain a clean and organized inventory storage area.
  3. Participate in training and development programs to enhance job skills and knowledge.
  4. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Experience: 2-3 years of experience in inventory control, preferably in a restaurant, food service, or grocery environment.

Skills:

  1. Strong understanding of inventory management principles and best practices.
  2. Proficiency in using inventory management software (e.g., POS systems, inventory control software).
  3. Excellent math and analytical skills.
  4. Attention to detail and accuracy.
  5. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  6. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  7. Knowledge of food safety and hygiene regulations.
  8. Ability to lift and carry heavy objects (if required).
  9. Basic computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Word).
