Position Overview

The Inventory Control Specialist will support inventory operations, material management, process improvement, and inventory-related initiatives across engineering, laboratory, manufacturing, logistics, and supply chain environments. This role requires a self-directed, detail-oriented professional who can work independently, resolve inventory issues, provide excellent customer service, and maintain strong inventory accuracy.

The ideal candidate will be a proactive problem solver with strong organizational skills and the ability to enforce inventory processes while building effective relationships with engineers, suppliers, warehouse teams, and cross-functional stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Inventory Control & Material Management
• Maintain accurate inventory records and ensure data integrity within inventory management systems.
• Receive, store, issue, and track inventory and material transactions.
• Order and expedite materials based on internal requests.
• Monitor inventory systems and fulfill material requests.
• Maintain inventory areas with appropriate organization and housekeeping standards.
• Investigate inventory discrepancies, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
• Conduct cycle counts, physical inventories, and periodic inventory audits.
• Maintain accurate records across internal and external inventory systems.

Customer Support & Process Ownership

• Serve as a primary point of contact for inventory-related questions and support.
• Provide excellent customer service while maintaining inventory control standards.
• Train engineers, technicians, and other stakeholders on inventory processes and systems.
• Support onboarding of new teams or business units into inventory management processes.
• Resolve issues related to material tracking, warehousing, inventory accuracy, and material availability.
• Work independently while collaborating with Engineering, Logistics, Quality, Supply Chain, Facilities, and Operations teams.
• Audits, Material Disposition & Warehouse Support
• Conduct inventory audits and material reviews at laboratory and warehouse locations.
• Verify inventory accuracy and identify aging, excess, or obsolete materials.
• Return to Stock (RTS)
• Scrap
• Cleaning and refurbishment
• Nonconforming material processing
• RMA coordination
• Offsite storage management
• Reconcile material discrepancies and coordinate with suppliers and buyers regarding shortages, damages, shipment issues, returns, and nonconforming materials.
• Participate in inventory optimization, 6S, material purge, and process improvement initiatives.
• Assist in developing and implementing new inventory processes and solutions.
• Identify opportunities to improve inventory accuracy, operational efficiency, customer satisfaction, and material availability.
• Support implementation of new inventory technologies, systems, and automation.
• Participate in special projects and other duties as assigned.
• Laboratory & Manufacturing Environment
• Occasionally work in laboratory, cleanroom, engineering, or manufacturing environments.
• Follow applicable safety procedures and wear required PPE and cleanroom attire.
• Support material handling and inventory activities within active engineering and manufacturing environments.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of experience in inventory control, warehouse operations, logistics, or material management.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency with computers and standard business software applications.
• Ability to analyze inventory data and generate reports.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams.
• Ability to type at least 50 WPM and perform 10-key data entry.

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Logistics, Operations Management, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
• Experience supporting engineering, laboratory, manufacturing, or semiconductor environments.
• Experience with SAP or other ERP/inventory management systems.
• Experience with Kardex Vertical Lift Modules (VLMs) or similar automated storage systems.
• Experience with inventory tracking or laboratory inventory systems.
• Experience conducting inventory audits, investigations, and material disposition reviews.
• Experience training users and implementing new business processes.
• Demonstrated experience leading continuous improvement initiatives.
• Self-starter with strong ownership and accountability.
• Excellent inventory accuracy and attention to detail.
• Strong analytical and root-cause problem-solving abilities.
• Customer-focused with strong process discipline.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and perform inventory activities for extended periods.
• Ability to work in laboratory, warehouse, and manufacturing environments.
• Ability to travel between nearby company facilities or warehouse locations as required.
