Position Overview

We are currently looking to add a dynamic employee capable of providing a full array of urban forestry, horticultural, ecological stewardship, lakeshore, ravine, streambank, bluff restoration as well as traditional landscape maintenance to clients in the private and public sectors throughout the Upper Midwest.

Job Duties

The Inventory Arborist / Environmental Technician Hybrid Role will provide a very vide array of natural resource services to our government, commercial and not-for-profit clients. The position covers work related to managing trees, native landscapes, and urban forests. The position involves a variety of work including, inspecting and inventorying trees, identifying common tree defects, invasive plant species control, native plant and seed installation, streambank, lake shore, ravine, and bluff stabilization and restoration, prescribed burning, traditional landscape management, installations and other types of habitat restoration. The position is full time but depends on workload and weather conditions. The majority of work is outdoors, often in inclement weather and in rugged terrain, and may involve using heavy equipment, such as spray rigs, backpack sprayers, augers, chain saws, mowers, etc...

Qualifications

Education and Qualifications:

An individual must be able to perform each essential job duty consistently and satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Two to four year degree in Forestry, Urban Forestry, Horticulture, Arboriculture, Environmental Science, Plant Biology or related discipline or equivalent experience in similar positions is desired.
  • Current Driver’s License and Driving Record in good standing.
  • Urban forestry experience preferred. Proficient working knowledge of computers. Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint.
  • ISA certification or the ability to obtain one within 6 months of hiring.
  • Possession of or be willing to obtain an Illinois Department of Agriculture Certified Pesticide Applicators License is required.
  • Prescribed burn experience and S130/S190 certification, and native plant identification is desired.
  • Training in chain saw, brush saw, and 4x4 ATV/UTV is desired

Work is conducted year round and is 100% field based. Typical work week is Monday through Friday, approximately 9 hours a day.
