Job summary

thyssenkrupp Bilstein of America, Inc. in Hamilton, Ohio, is seeking an Inventory and Freight Specialist to coordinate transportation and inventory for domestic and international customers. You will work with SAP and internal systems to ensure on-time delivery and accurate documentation.

The role requires knowledge of import/export regulations, freight rate analysis, carrier management, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining strong vendor and stakeholder relationships.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Management or Supply Chain preferred.
  • Detailed knowledge of air, ocean, import/export business and domestic transportation.
  • Knowledge of state, federal, and international laws and regulations (DOT, customs, TSA, etc.).
  • Understanding of global trade rules and commodity classification for domestic/international commerce.
  • Experience with large ERP systems (SAP) and Transportation Management Systems (TMS).
  • Ability to travel as needed and work independently.

Responsibilities

  • Manages and coordinates incoming and outgoing shipments via all modes of transport.
  • Tracks and traces shipments and provides status updates to stakeholders.
  • Ensures compliance with federal and foreign regulations and performs periodic audits.
  • Analyzes freight rates and supports carrier selection and negotiations.
  • Maintains shipping documentation accuracy and data in SAP/TMS.
  • Contributes to inventory accuracy and cycle counting schedules.

Company thyssenkrupp Bilstein of America, Inc. is a world class manufacturer of suspension solutions headquartered in Hamilton, Ohio USA. thyssenkrupp Bilstein of America supplies products to a wide range of Original Equipment Automotive Manufacturers as well as Aftermarket and Motorsports customers. Our Aftermarket operations are based out of Poway, CA and our Motorsports operations are based out of Mooresville, NC.


Your responsibilities

Summary: The Inventory and Freight Specialist is responsible for coordinating the transportation and delivery of goods to international & domestic customers utilizing internal resources and external service providers and ensuring accurate inventory. Ensures compliance with U.S. and foreign governments' regulations. Improves the effectiveness of internal processes through service delivery and communication.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manages and coordinates incoming and outgoing shipments of raw and finished product via all modes of transport per tk Logistics.
  • Tracks and traces shipments as necessary to meet required transit time and provide status updates to stakeholders.
  • Monitors transportation performance for Bilstein related shipments, ensuring carrier compliance with company requirements and standards.
  • Provides freight rates to support new component, supplier and business acquisitions.
  • Works to consolidate and control all shipping methods throughout Bilstein in order to drive down cost and simplify processes.
  • Updates and maintains Transportation Management System (SAP) as necessary.
  • Manages retention of packing slips, commercial invoices, logs and files, including all relevant support documents, for movements of materials and reconciliation of billing issues where necessary.
  • Analyzes, develops and implements internal and external security controls to ensure compliance with federal and foreign regulations. Conducts periodic export and import compliance audits and implement any necessary corrective actions.
  • Performs analysis as required on various aspects of the import/export process, domestic carriers, including selection, evaluation and performance management of carriers and third party logistics providers to ensure competitive cost and transit times
  • Ensures accuracy of shipping documentation through periodic audit and staff training.
  • Ensures proper documentation is obtained and maintained in compliance with Company standards
  • Reviews and approves freight charges processed by 3rd party freight audit /payment firm for reasonableness, accuracy, and completion.
  • Performs invoice audits as necessary to ensure 3rd party audits invoices in accordance with negotiated rates.
  • Files freight claims to recover loss due to transit delays and damages per receiving and quality nonconformance
  • Creates country-specific export and commercial documents as necessary for outbound finished products; manages Denied Party Screening.
  • Provides back up to the Finished Goods Team Lead and Shipping and Receiving Supervisor.
    • Establishes strong customer relationships by understanding their needs, frequently communicating progress and anticipating future requirements
  • Supports accurate inventory levels by assisting in the development of cycle counting schedules.
  • Ensures investigation and correction of all inventory variances, including root cause analysis.
  • Maintains a safe working environment by complying with all safety and environmental policies in the workplace. Advocates for and promotes a safe work environment by reporting Near Misses and/or other safety and environmental hazards, wearing all required PPE and encouraging others to do the same.
  • Exercises independent judgement and discretion in connection with exercising job duties.
  • Ensures compliance and safety of all activities within the organization standards and policies.
  • Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Your profile

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Management or Supply Chain preferred.
  • Detailed knowledge of operational procedures regarding air, ocean, import/export business, domestic transportation.
  • Knowledge of state, federal, and international applicable laws and regulations i.e. DOT, customs, TSA, security, and all other import and export government agencies that regulate international trade.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of global trade rules, regulations and standards for commodities moving in domestic and international commerce., including associated rules and packaging definitions, specifications and requirements.
  • Understanding of the proper classification of commodities for moving in domestic and international commerce.
  • Knowledge of domestic and international freight rate construction and application.
  • Full understanding of what is required for and how to complete domestic and international shipments.
  • Working knowledge of freight carriers and transport processed associated with customs brokerages, international freight forwarding, full and less than full container ocean shipping, full and less than truckloads, airfreight and buyer's consolidation programs.
  • Experience working with large ERP systems (SAP preferred) with strong understanding of Transportation Management Systems (TMS).
  • Understanding of hazardous materials, I.A.T.A., IMDG and DOT Certification preferred.
  • Excellent oral, written, problem solving, customer service, time management and organizational skills.
  • Position requires the ability to handle the demands of multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Possesses judgement to make critical, time sensitive decisions that impact contractual agreements.
  • Position requires the ability to travel as needed.
  • Highly organized with ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Exhibits integrity through fair and ethical behaviors in all activities; maintains accountability for performance.
  • Strong attention to detail with well-developed organizational and communication skills.
  • Proven experience developing work processes to improve outcomes for the team/customers.
