Job summary

Advantex Professional Services in Los Angeles is seeking a Cost or Inventory Accountant to join our finance team on a direct-hire basis. You will support inventory accounting, product costing, COGS, and margin analysis, contributing to month-end close and reporting.

The role requires a 2+ year accounting background with GAAP knowledge, strong Excel and ERP experience, and the ability to work independently while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance or related field.
• 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably in retail or inventory-focused settings.
• Solid understanding of GAAP and accounting principles.
• Experience with inventory accounting and COGS.
• Strong Excel skills and use of PivotTables and lookup functions.
• Experience with an ERP or accounting system.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent attention to detail and organization.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating with cross-functional teams.
• Strong written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Manage and analyze inventory and product costing.
• Perform inventory reconciliations and investigate variances.
• Analyze COGS, gross margins, and product costs.
• Prepare monthly journal entries and supporting schedules.
• Reconcile inventory subledgers to the general ledger.
• Analyze costs including freight and duties affecting margins.
• Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes.
• Assist with counts, cycle counts, and adjustments.
• Prepare financial reports and management analysis.
• Collaborate with purchasing, merchandising, operations, and finance teams.

What You'll Do

• Reconcile inventory subledgers to the general ledger.
• Analyze purchase price, freight, duties, and other costs impacting product margins.
• Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes.
• Assist with inventory counts, cycle counts, and related adjustments.
• Prepare financial reports and management analysis.
• Partner with purchasing, merchandising, operations, and finance teams to resolve discrepancies.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.

  What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably within retail, consumer products, distribution, or another inventory-focused environment.
  • Solid understanding of GAAP and accounting principles.
  • Experience with inventory accounting and COGS.
  • Strong Excel skills, including PivotTables and XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP.
  • Experience with an ERP or accounting system.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organization.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong communication skills and a commitment to accuracy.
