Responsibilities
As directed by the Invasive Cardiologist and Department Manager, the Invasive Cath Lab Technologist provides direct patient care, including diagnostic and/or therapeutic invasive procedures. May provide other support services based on patient needs as a member of the delivery team. On-call hours are required for 24/7 emergency coverage with a response time of 30 minutes.
The Invasive Cardiac Cath Lab Technologist is responsible for assessing, planning, delivering, and evaluating care for patients, collaborating with the healthcare team to achieve optimal outcomes. The technologist practices within the scope of licensure and adheres to Grand View Health policies and procedures.
Essential Job Functions:
- Assist physicians in procedure rooms, including scrubbing, monitoring, and circulating. Understand radiation safety and use proper attire and distancing to minimize exposure. Maintain a solid knowledge base of hemodynamics and cardiac catheterization procedures, including devices and protocols. Provide support services within licensure and certification boundaries.
- Prepare equipment and stock procedure rooms daily. Perform quality control checks and follow up as needed.
- Assess cardiorespiratory systems for changes and treat appropriately.
- Maintain medical/surgical asepsis during procedures.
- Observe behavioral and physiologic changes due to medications; document and respond accordingly.
- Perform skills necessary for safe care of acutely ill adult and geriatric patients, following standards.
- Recognize emergencies promptly and respond within guidelines to meet patient needs.
- Understand equipment functions, recognize safety hazards, and report malfunctions to ensure safety.
- Act as patient advocate, ensuring patient needs are met.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and privacy rights.
- Participate in data collection and hospital-wide quality improvement activities to meet care standards.
- Engage in data review and analysis for quality improvement and research.
- Ensure care meets standards and evidence-based practices.
- Collect and interpret subjective and objective data, utilizing assessment skills to identify problems or needs.
- Correlate diagnostic data with physical findings to plan interventions.
- Set mutually acceptable goals with patients and significant others.
- Initiate discharge planning, identifying post-hospital care needs and collaborating with the healthcare team.
- Develop educational plans based on patient needs.
- Coordinate and implement care plans collaboratively.
- Monitor patient and family needs, ensuring accurate and timely documentation.
- Communicate effectively with the healthcare team using verbal and written skills.
- Document care accurately in electronic medical records and other forms.
- Accept assignments professionally and communicate concerns appropriately.
- Identify educational needs and seek opportunities for professional development.
- Assist in orienting new staff and foster leadership skills.
- Participate in committees and task forces supporting the hospital mission.
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm, every third weekend and holiday. On-call required.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Vocational diploma from an accredited school of Cardiovascular Science or
- Vocational diploma from an AMA-approved radiologic technology program with over 6 months to 1 year in the interventional field.
Licenses and Certifications:
- RCIS certification from CCI or R.T.(R) registration from ARRT, upon hire.
- Basic Life Support (BLS), upon hire.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), upon hire.
- Successful completion of a cardiac arrhythmia interpretation course within 60 days of hire.
