About the team

For this Intro to Engineering/STEAM Teacher position, you'll be working at our high school in North Philadelphia called TECH Freire Charter School (9th-12th Grade). Our rigorous college-prep program is infused with technology and entrepreneurship education to unlock creativity and potential. We demand excellence while providing the support needed for high achievement and college readiness. The Class of 2024 had a 96% college acceptance rate and earned over $7 million in scholarships and aid.

Location: TECH Freire Charter School (9-12): 2221 N Broad St, Philadelphia, PA 19132

Makerspace: Our campus features two fully-equipped makerspaces with tools like bandsaws, shopbots, 3D printers, virtual reality equipment, and more, enabling hands-on learning and creativity.

What you'll do

As part of Freire's instructional team, you'll work with standards-aligned curriculum to promote critical thinking and high achievement. You'll develop and implement an engaging STEAM curriculum that fosters problem-solving, innovation, and hands-on learning. We're seeking a dynamic educator who can inspire students and create an interactive classroom environment.

Responsibilities

• Design creative, engaging, and hands-on projects that teach tool use, safety protocols, and the engineering design process.
• Create and maintain a classroom culture of critical thinking, respect, high achievement, and community engagement.
• Develop learning materials that promote critical thinking and problem-solving.
• Maintain regular communication with families about student progress and school updates.
• Participate in professional development and collaborate with staff to support student needs.

Minimum requirements

• Bachelor's Degree or higher
• Valid state teaching certification or willingness to obtain certification in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, or Mathematics.
• Familiarity with the engineering design process
• Experience using non-traditional classroom spaces like makerspaces, including running classes and maintaining equipment.
• Knowledge of makerspace equipment (power tools, 3D printers, poster printers, laser cutters, etc.)

Qualifications

• STEAM Education endorsement or certificate

Pay and benefits

The annual salary range is $50,000 - $85,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Benefits include health, dental, vision, and a 403(b) retirement plan with a 5% employer contribution.
