Wilkes University invites applicants for an open Intro to the Chemistry Career Track teaching/workshop position in the Upward Bound Program. Upward Bound is a federally funded TRIO Program that provides support to high school students in career exploration, preparation for college, and ultimately, their higher education pursuits.

The successful candidate is responsible for implementing the academic component of the program by introducing students to college and career pathways in Chemistry.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or Education or a related field is required.
• Master's degree is preferred.
• Experience working with high school students or in a college-preparatory program is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Implement the academic component of the program by introducing students to college and career pathways in Chemistry.
• Provide guidance and mentorship while helping students explore educational requirements, career opportunities, and professional pathways within chemistry and related fields.
• Deliver one 50-minute class period each Thursday during Fall 2026 and manage the Thursday evening schedule.

The successful candidate is responsible for implementing the academic component of the program by introducing students to college and career pathways in Chemistry. Through structured class periods, the instructor will provide guidance and mentorship while helping students explore educational requirements, career opportunities, and professional pathways within chemistry and related fields. A Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Education, and/or a related field is required. A Master's degree is preferred. Experience working with high school students or in a college-preparatory program is preferred.

Please note that this is a part-time, temporary position for Fall 2026 with an hourly wage. Program dates run from September 24th through December 10th, with classes held Thursday evenings from 6:30 P.M. – 8:20 P.M. The hired instructor will be responsible for one (1), 50-minute class period each Thursday and will be informed of the schedule ahead of time.
