Job summary

The Instructional Lab Manager for Introductory Biology BIO 206L at UT Austin supports the daily operations of a high-enrollment teaching lab, ensuring materials, equipment, and spaces are prepared for hands-on student activities. This role manages inventory, restocks supplies, monitors equipment, and oversees the proper handling of biohazardous and chemical waste.

Trains and coordinates undergraduate and graduate teaching assistants and directly assists in teaching students during lab

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in biological sciences.
• At least 2 years of laboratory work experience; undergraduate research acceptable.
• Experience preparing solutions, media, and bacterial cultures.
• Experience with aseptic technique and introductory molecular techniques such as PCR.
• Experience procuring and maintaining lab equipment and materials.
• Experience and knowledge of lab safety protocols and chemical/biological waste disposal.
• Experience supervising and training others in a work setting.

Responsibilities

• Research, procure, and maintain laboratory supplies and equipment.
• Set up, take down, and organize equipment and materials for course laboratories.
• Assist instructors in developing new laboratory exercises and testing protocols.
• Assist in improving existing exercises and updating procedural guidelines.
• Train, instruct, and supervise student lab assistants in safe lab practices.
• Provide instructional and technical support for laboratory personnel and teaching assistants.
