Role Description

The Intro/Age-Group Swim Coach is a full-time, on-site role located in Oakley, CA. This role is responsible for planning and leading daily swim practices for introductory and age-group swimmers, focusing on fundamental technique, conditioning, and water safety. The coach will provide clear instruction, demonstrate proper strokes, and give individualized feedback to help swimmers progress through skill levels. Day-to-day tasks include organizing practice sets, managing lane groups, monitoring swimmer safety, and collaborating with other coaches on seasonal training plans. The coach will also communicate regularly with parents and guardians, assist with meet preparation and on-deck coaching, and help maintain a positive, professional, and motivating environment for all athletes.

Qualifications

• Strong swim instruction skills, including the ability to teach and break down stroke mechanics for varied age and skill levels.
• Demonstrated swimming experience, with solid knowledge of competitive strokes, starts, turns, and basic training principles.
• Experience providing structured swim lessons in group and individual settings, with an emphasis on progression and safety.
• Background in aquatics and lifeguarding, including familiarity with pool safety protocols and emergency response procedures.
• Current or obtainable certifications such as CPR/First Aid, Lifeguard Certification, and USA Swimming Coach credentials (or equivalent).
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and motivate children and adolescents in a supportive manner.
• Ability to work on-site consistently in Oakley, CA, including early morning, evening, and weekend hours as needed for practices and meets.
• Prior coaching experience with youth or age-group swimmers is strongly preferred; competitive swimming background is a plus.
• Organizational skills to plan practices, track swimmer progress, and collaborate effectively with coaching staff and club leadership.
