Job summary

University of Utah Health is seeking an Intra-Operative Monitoring (IOM) Technologist to provide neurophysiologic monitoring during orthopedic, neurosurgical and vascular procedures in a high‑acuity OR setting. The role includes brain/spinal cord monitoring, EEG/EMG, and intraoperative electrocorticography, with direct patient care within scope and state law.

Qualifications include a healthcare bachelor’s degree or equivalent, CNIM certification, and 4 years of patient care experience; licenses

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare discipline or equivalent.
• Completion of R.EEG T, R.EPT, or R.NCS T with current registration.
• Four years of hands-on patient care experience.

Responsibilities

• Communicates with surgical staff to establish correct site, type of surgery and equipment placement.
• Recognizes desired waveforms or activity and artifacts.
• Troubleshoots equipment malfunctions.
• Collaborates with department manager and IONM staff daily.
• Applies knowledge of neuron anatomy and normal physiology.
• Reports patient concerns and changes in condition.
• Ensures patient safety relative to history and contraindications.
• Removes electrodes and cleans up after monitoring.
