Job summary

UChicago Medicine is seeking an Intraoperative Neuromonitoring (IONM) Supervisor within the Neurophysiology team. The role oversees cases, assigns activities to technologists, and provides floor supervision to ensure patient safety and high-quality monitoring during surgery.

Responsibilities include staffing, scheduling, real-time performance monitoring, and driving process improvements with clinical and administrative partners.

Qualifications

• Associates or Bachelor’s Degree; healthcare experience may substitute.
• 7+ years of progressive intraoperative neuromonitoring experience including leadership responsibilities.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience performing IOMN in a surgical setting.

Responsibilities

• Perform intraoperative monitoring and oversee cases.
• Assign IONM activities to technologists and provide floor supervision.
• Establish staff schedules and ensure appropriate coverage.
• Monitor daily reports and make real-time adjustments.
• Address operational issues related to facilities, equipment, and supplies.
• Ensure compliance with JCAHO, IDPH, ACNS and other agencies.
• Provide day-to-day onsite supervision for IONM operations.
• Train staff and assist with CEUs and certifications.
• Conduct performance evaluations and staff development.
• Oversee time and attendance and overtime management.
• Lead process improvement initiatives and update policies.
• Assist with financial planning, budget development, and expense management.
• Monitor performance metrics and use EPIC and other tools for reporting.

Job Summary

The Intraoperative Neuromonitoring (IONM) Supervisor will be primarily responsible for overseeing cases, junior staff, and departmental functions while performing complex neuromonitoring procedures to ensure patient safety during surgery. This role partners closely with physician, administrative, and operational leaders across UCM and BSD to support strategic initiatives, promote continuous process improvement, and ensure effective communication. The supervisor serves as a champion for quality, safety, patient experience, and operational excellence.

Essential Job Functions

• Performing intraoperative monitoring
• Assign IONM activities to technologists, provide floor supervision, and serve as a resource and mentor for junior staff.
• Establish staff and IONM schedules and daily assignments to ensure appropriate coverage and efficient operations.
• Monitor daily operational and performance reports and make real-time adjustments as needed.
• Address operational issues related to IS, facilities, EVS, equipment, and supplies.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory and accrediting agencies, including JCAHO, IDPH, and ACNS.
• Provide day-to-day onsite supervision for IONM operations.
• Trains and /or schedules training for all technical staff members; assist staff members with earning CEU’s and certifications.
• Conducts regular performance evaluations, provides ongoing coaching, and supports staff development.
• Oversee time and attendance, including monitoring and managing overtime and extra service pay.
• Ensure a bidirectional flow of information between frontline teams and leadership
• Provide regular project updates, performance summaries, and reports to leadership
• Works with Assistant Director to lead and manage process improvement initiatives
• Writes and updates policies and procedures
• Supports the Assistant Director with financial planning, budget development, and ongoing expense management
• Processes Supply orders and keeps accurate inventory of suppliesMonitor current performance assessments, key metrics, and dashboards to drive data-informed decision-making
• Leverage technology and digital tools, including EPIC, to support operations, reporting and patient care
• Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Associates or Bachelor’s Degree, but equivalent healthcare experience may take place of a degree OR 7+ years of progressive intraoperative neuromonitoring experience including leadership responsibilities
• Minimum of 5 years of experience performing IOMN in a Surgical setting

Licensure or Certifications

• Completion of an accredited IONM training program
• CNIM certification required or ability to obtain within six months
• Current BLS certification (or ability to obtain)

• Competency across a wide range of complex case types
