Job summary

The Youth Sports Coach provides a positive, instructional environment for Parks & Recreation youth programs in basketball, golf, tennis and volleyball. The role focuses on skill development, sportsmanship, and youth growth through recreational athletics.

You will lead practices, supervise games, teach fundamentals, promote teamwork, ensure safety, and communicate with participants and parents. Evening and weekend availability is required, along with a collaborative, inclusive approach.

Qualifications

• Basic knowledge of sport rules and fundamentals (sport-specific experience preferred).

• Ability to work evenings, weekends, and seasonal schedules as required.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise assigned youth sports team(s) during practices, games, and program activities.
• Teach fundamental skills, rules, and strategies of the assigned sport.
• Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, respect, and positive behavior at all times.
• Provide encouragement and instruction appropriate to participant age and skill level.
• Develop and implement basic practice plans and organize team activities.
• Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants during program activities.
• Enforce program rules, policies, and procedures consistently and fairly.
• Communicate effectively with participants, parents, and Parks & Recreation staff as needed.
• Demonstrate professionalism when interacting with officials, staff, volunteers, and participants.
• Support an inclusive environment that encourages participation for all skill levels.
• Attend all scheduled practices, games, meetings, and required program events.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, and move for extended periods during practices and games.
• Ability to demonstrate basic sport movements and skills.
• Ability to communicate clearly in indoor and outdoor environments.
• Ability to lift and carry light equipment as needed

Work Environment

• Work is performed in indoor gymnasiums, outdoor fields, courts, or recreational facilities depending on sport.
• Requires evening and weekend availability based on program schedules.
• May involve exposure to varying weather conditions for outdoor sports.
• Regular interaction with youth participants, parents, staff, and volunteers.
