Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking an Interventional Radiology Technologist to perform imaging procedures in alignment with department standards, policies, and mission. The role emphasizes setup of interventional suites, aseptic technique, patient positioning, and strict documentation.

Required ARRT Radiography and VI certifications, CPR, and background clearances. Prior IR experience is preferred; strong emphasis on safety and inventory control.

Qualifications

  • Minimum education/experience as stated: Associate’s degree or technical school certification, or 6 months to 1 year training/experience.
  • ARRT Radiography Certification and Registration required.
  • VI certification within 24 months of hire (with noted conditions for pre/post 2024 hires).
  • CPR certification required.
  • Background clearances: Act 34, Act 33, Act 73 required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in setting up interventional suite with instruments and supplies.
  • Adhere to aseptic technique and standard precautions for meds, contrast, and specimens.
  • Assist with patient positioning and draping, ensuring correct site.
  • Adapt to provider preference and patient care variables; update provider preference materials.
  • Complete documentation for procedures (regulatory, billing, image distribution).
  • Maintain supplies and participate in inventory control.
  • Implement radiation protection and patient safety standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

General Overview

This job performs various imaging procedures in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice and with the policies, values, and mission of the organization.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Assists in setting up the interventional suite with appropriate instruments and supplies (15%).
  • Utilizes proper aseptic techniques and practices standard precautions, following policy for medication, contrast, and specimen handling (15%).
  • Assists with preparing, positioning, and draping patients and participates in the interventional space to assure correct patient and surgical site (15%).
  • Understands, anticipates, and adapts to interventional provider preference and patient care variables, contributing to updating interventional provider preference materials (15%).
  • Completes all required documentation for procedures, e.g., regulatory, billing protocols, and image distribution (15%).
  • Maintains adequate supplies for efficient section/department operations, participating in inventory control and monitoring (15%).
  • Implements radiation protection and patient safety standards (10%).
  • Other duties as assigned or requested.
Qualifications
Minimum
  • Associate's degree or certification from a technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Radiography Certification and Registration (R) - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • Vascular Interventional Radiography Certification and Registration (VI) - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) within 24 months of hire. Employees in an Interventional Radiology Technologist role (prior to September 1, 2024) who do not have a VI certification are not required to obtain it; employees in an Interventional Radiology Technologist role with existing VI certification are required to maintain active certifications. Employees hired or transferred into the Interventional Radiology Technologist role after September 1, 2024, are also required to maintain active certifications.
  • CPR – American Heart Association.
  • Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate.
  • Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate.
  • Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate.
Preferred
  • Prior experience working as an Interventional Radiology Technologist.
