Overview

MedStar Health is looking for an Interventional Radiology Technologist to join our team. This is a highly skilled technical and professional position which assists with all invasive cardiovascular procedures and other specialized interventional procedures under the direction of the Interventional Radiologist, Cardiologist and Vascular Surgeon and in accordance with established protocols. The Radiographer must be proficient in scrubbing procedures and the use of imaging, processing, and patient care-related equipment.

Primary Duties
  • Operates and documents all aspects of the Cath Lab procedures and functions as a contributing member of the Interventional Radiology/Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory team, working with vascular surgeons, cardiologists, radiologists, registered nurses, and cardiovascular technologists. Provides the technical skills necessary to assist the physician in performing Interventional Radiology and Cardiac Catheterization procedures. Maintains a safe environment for the patient and functions as a Scrub Assistant ensuring aseptic/sterile technique. Ensures adequate room stock and imaging procedure supplies, and assists in data recording, storage, retrieval, and analysis of data during interventional procedures.
  • Assists in monitoring patients, including hemodynamic data/ECG/angiographic data; recognizes changes, documents as needed, and reports to the physician and team in a timely fashion.
  • Assists with preparation of radiologic and other laboratory equipment for procedures while adhering to sterile technique. Maintains and troubleshoots equipment and ensures proper operation of interventional equipment. Properly positions patients and provides pre-procedure instructions. Participates in data collection and quality improvement reporting.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, prepared work environment; prepares rooms, cleans and sterilizes equipment, restocks supplies, and informs the appropriate person when supplies need replenishment.
  • Maintains current knowledge, certification, and licensure. Identifies learning needs, attends continuing education programs to maintain certification, and completes mandatory requirements within allotted time.
  • Collaborates across departments on inter-departmental teams and committees; shares knowledge and contributes to department improvement while maintaining a constructive approach in interactions.
  • Ensures sterile instruments are available, maintains dosimeter badge records, creates quarterly exposure reports for the Radiation Safety Committee, and maintains lead survey records. Precepts new Cardiovascular Lab technologists and assists with equipment availability, case scheduling, and communication with company representatives and physicians as needed. Participates in system-wide meetings and disseminates information to department staff.

  • 5-7 years of Cath Lab experience preferred.
  • ARRT license as Registered Radiologic Technologist in Maryland.
  • CPR within 90 days of hire.

This position has a hiring range of $38.48 - $62.52
