TITLE: Interventional Radiology Technologist I

JOB OVERVIEW: The Interventional Radiology Technologist will assist interventional providers in performing and completing invasive diagnostic therapeutic interventional procedures in radiology and neurovascular, cardiovascular, electrophysiology (pacemakers/devices), and implantation procedures in labs using a variety of complicated/advanced equipment, monitoring/stimulation systems, devices, and supplies. Under the direction of the Lead technologist, the Director or Manager, and physicians, performs special procedures, cardiac cath procedures, CT, and Ultrasound procedures if applicable, at a technical level not requiring supervision. Performs a variety of interventional/invasive procedures requiring independent judgement.

WORK HOURS: Variable

REPORTS TO: Radiology Manager

Prerequisites:

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within 3 months of hire

American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) or Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS)

Previous Interventional Radiology/Cath Lab Cardiovascular Technician Experience Preferred

Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) preferred.

Graduate from an accredited school with supervised clinical experience in invasive electrophysiological procedures preferred.

VI or CI preferred.

Unique Physical/Mental Demands, Environment And Working Conditions:

Requires working as part of a team at the direction of the Director or Manager, lead, physicians to ensure efficient operation of the special imaging department. Requires handling, lifting, and transferring patients and equipment, standing, sitting, walking swiftly, reaching overhead, pulling, and bending. Requires wearing lead aprons weighing up to 10 pounds on a regular basis. Requires the ability to effectively communicate with other staff, physicians, and patients. Requires working under changing conditions depending on the schedules of the department. Includes the potential for exposure to body fluids and other conditions common to hospitals. Requires transporting patients via wheelchair, stretcher, and bed throughout the facility. Requires skills in answering the phone, PACS image transfer procedure, RIS, and some word processing/writing skills.

Essential Responsibilities And Competencies:

Operates equipment including but not limited to X-ray equipment, Hemodynamic system, US, IVUS, FFR.

Performs at an expert clinical level and assists the physician in procedures, including both diagnostic and interventional.

Serves as a role model and expert resource for both internal and external customers regarding standards of care for interventional radiology procedures.

Implements safe, competent, and efficient procedure care within policies, procedures, and standards of care.

Demonstrates expertise in all cardiovascular laboratory technical skills, image acquisition, transferring and archiving of images, trouble shooting skills and expert knowledge of catheters and specialty equipment used during procedures.

Maintains skills and unit competencies.

Demonstrates an expert knowledge of radiological equipment & safety, shielding techniques, expert imaging skills and X-Ray equipment trouble-shooting skills, analyzing, 3D mapping and recording equipment and other equipment utilized in the Lab.

Intra and post procedure patient assessment and patient care within cope of practice, patient teaching, circulating, and scrubbing roles for invasive procedures performed in the Special Procedure.

Systematically and continuously collects, assesses, and documents data in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to provide procedural care.

Assures that informed patient consent has been obtained and that all questions and concerns have been answered to the patient's satisfaction. Ensures Universal Protocol standards are followed and met for all invasive procedures.

Implements safe, competent, and efficient care to patients within hospital and departmental policies, procedures, and standards across a variety of populations and complexity of situations.

Demonstrates proficiency in the use and location of interventional and invasive supplies.

Maintain daily safety checklists for equipment as required.

Document equipment problems in service logs and initiate service calls.

Transports patients as necessary utilizing appropriate safety resources.

Takes on-call responsibility as scheduled and arrives within 30 minutes of notification.
