Job summary

Johnston-Willis Hospital in Virginia is seeking a skilled Interventional Radiology Registered Nurse to join our trusted care team. You will contribute to sedation, monitoring, and patient preparation, while ensuring sterile technique and coordinating care with multiple departments.

Required: three years of RN experience, radiology nursing experience, AMA‑approved nursing program graduate, Virginia nursing license (or compact), ACLS and BLS within 30 days of start.

Qualifications

  • Minimum three years of RN experience.
  • One year of radiology nursing experience.
  • Graduate of an AMA approved School of Nursing.
  • Current Virginia nursing license or compact license.
  • ACLS within 30 days of employment start date.
  • BLS within 30 days of employment start date.

Responsibilities

  • Knowledge of sedation medications, reversal agents, and monitoring equipment.
  • Assess and intervene to maintain patient physiological homeostasis.
  • Prepare patients with knowledge of labs, allergies, and pre-medications.
  • Maintain emergency support equipment and logs.
  • Coordinate patient transport and bed management with departments.
  • Provide patient education pre- and post-procedure.
  • Document according to JCAHO and nursing standards.
  • Know department computer systems (Meditech, PACS).
  • Assist interventional patients with sterile technique and setup.
  • Fulfills on-call requirements.
  • Daily checks of glucose monitoring equipment and room turnover.

Job Summary And Qualifications
  • Demonstrates knowledge of sedation medication, reversal agents, and monitoring equipment in accordance with sedation policy and procedures.
  • Demonstrate critical care skills and is able to assess and intervene as needed to maintain the patient’s physiological homeostasis. Is proficient in administration of conscious sedation/analgesia and other medications as is necessary in the care of patients. Possess sterile technique skills as needed to be able to scrub minor cases.
  • Responsible for patient preparation by having knowledge of patient’s lab values, allergies and need for pre-medications or treatments, as well as patient’s history. Be able to assist with equipment setup prior to procedures.
  • Maintain optimal function of emergency support equipment and perform daily check and maintains log sheet.
  • Coordinate scheduling and transportation of patients with other departments and with bed control, and be able to communicate specific patient needs in a timely and consistent manner.
  • Provide patient education pre- and post- procedure.
  • Perform all documentation in accordance with JCAHO criteria and nursing standards as dictated by hospital policy and procedures.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of department computer systems including, but not limited to Meditech and PACS.
  • Assists in the care and preparation of Interventional patients, competent in sterile technique, able to don sterile gown and gloves and maintains a sterile field for procedures.
  • Fulfills on call/callback requirements as determined by department needs.
  • Perform blood glucose monitoring equipment daily checks, perform environmental rounds and assist with room turnover between patients.
What qualifications you will need:
  • Required Minimum three years experience as a registered nurse.
  • Required One-year experience in radiology nursing.
  • Required Graduate of an AMA approved School of Nursing.
  • Required Current Nursing registration with the State of Virginia or has a compact license
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
