Charleston Area Medical Center in Charleston, WV, invites applications for the Radiologic Technology IR Extern. This hands-on externship provides supervised experience in Interventional Radiology while aligning with your accredited radiologic technology program and hospital policies.

Externs observe across diagnostic imaging areas, assist with patient transport, gowning, and EMR/PACS tasks, and support licensed technologists during IR procedures.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Must be actively enrolled in an accredited Radiologic Technology program and provide proof.
• BLS certification is required.
• Ability to follow instructions and work under supervision; safety is essential.
• Preferred but not required: at least six months as a Radiology Extern before transferring to this advanced extern role.

Responsibilities

• Observe in diagnostic imaging areas under supervision and do not perform imaging on patients.
• Assist with transportation of patients between care units and waiting rooms.
• Assist with patient transfer to/from beds and exam tables.
• Escort patients to/from the procedure room and assist with arrival/departure.
• Provide direct patient care such as gowning and basic comfort measures.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.
• Support infection control standards and keep exam rooms stocked.
• Perform front desk duties as assigned and aid in department workflow coordination.
• Assist technologists in opening sterile trays and scrubbing in for IR procedures.
• Operate ultrasound equipment in IR as directed and save images.

Education

Formal Radiologic Technology program enrollment

BLS certification
