Job summary

Advocate Health's AMC Summit - Interventional Radiology department seeks a part-time radiology technologist (0.5 FTE) for rotating days. Start times 07:30–08:30, end 16:00–17:00, with one week night call and weekend rotation. Pay range listed: $35.50–$53.25 hourly.

You will operate angiographic equipment, assist in procedures, monitor patients, ensure imaging quality, and document charges. Requires Wisconsin Radiographer license, ARRT RT, BLS; ACLS within 6 months if required.

Qualifications

  • Advanced Radiologic Technology training or equivalent.
  • Radiographer license issued by the state of Wisconsin.
  • ARRT RT registration and BLS certification required within 6 months; ACLS within 6 months unless not required.

Responsibilities

  • Operate angiographic equipment for diagnostic procedures.
  • Assists in interventional and surgical procedures as scrub assistant.
  • Monitor patients and respond to changes in status.
  • Ensure diagnostic quality of images and proper labeling.

Department: 36343 AMC Summit - Interventional Radiology

Status: Part time

Hours Per Week: 20

Schedule Details

0.5 FTE position. Rotating days off. Varying start and end times. Start times between 0730-0830 and times between 1600-1700. 1 week night of call per week and once every 5th weekend. Participation in holiday call rotation - 2 calendar holidays per year.

Pay Range: $35.50 - $53.25

Major Responsibilities
  • Competently operates angiographic equipment used to perform basic and intermediate diagnostic procedures, including but not limited to: biopsy, para/thoracentesis, abscess drainages, peripheral vascular stenting, catheter placement, thrombolytic therapy, and embolization.
  • Acts as a scrub assistant on basic interventional and surgical procedures, receiving direction from attending and resident physicians.
  • Monitors patients and alerts staff of life threatening changes in patient status.
  • Applies the defibrillator and performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation when required.
  • Provides assistance with emergency procedures, responding quickly and effectively as they occur.
  • Identifies and processes images, assuring that images are of diagnostic quality.
  • Assists clinical engineering staff in evaluating digital equipment to maintain consistent image quality.
  • Compares requisitions to physician orders to ensure ordered exam accuracy.
  • Post-processes images as directed and accurately identifies and labels images, identifying patient name, medical record unit (MRU) number, and location or position of scan on all images.
  • Maintains records in accordance with various regulatory agencies, and enters patient and study information into the radiology information system, and documents billing codes of procedures performed to ensure accurate patient charges.
  • Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique.
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures.
  • Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required
  • Radiographer license issued by the state of Wisconsin, and Registered Technologist (RT) registration issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), and Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months, and Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification (ACLS) issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months unless department leader has determined it is not required.
Education Required

Advanced training beyond High School that includes the completion of an accredited or approved program in Radiologic Technology.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
  • Competent in basic radiology positioning and techniques.
  • Knowledge of basic radiation safety and aseptic techniques.
  • Knowledge of anatomy that includes vascular and/or cerebral.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and patient service skills to work effectively with physicians, patients and other staff members.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Intermediate computer skills.
  • Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders frequently throughout the workday.

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist.
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs. over the head.
  • Must be able to carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance.
  • Must be able to: push/pull with 30 lbs. of force.
  • Perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present.
  • May be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, and radiation hazards as well as blood and body fluids; therefore, personal protective equipment must be worn as necessary.
  • Must have clear speech, vision, and hearing.
  • Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
